Okay, I posted on here a week ago about losing the bottom row of gears, and now I have more info.

I now have the car up on ramps and have been underneath it. We (my father and I) believe at one point a clutch job was performed, and whoever did it lost the bolt that holds the rod shifter to the tranny. They then replaced it with a shorter one that eventually worked its way out, cuss so I am trying to find a bolt that will go all the way into the threaded housing. I can't find this bolt anywhere including the ford dealer. Ford apparently only sold this bolt with a complete shift rod, AND the part is naturally obsolete.

I know the bolt is hardened steel 10.9 grade, 12mm diamater by 1.75mm thread pitch, and needs to be about 175mm (7") long. (The one that was in there is 125mm (5")long.)

Does anyone have any idea of where I might find this bolt??? I have tried every place I could think of for 150 miles and can't find it. headbang Tomorrow I am going to try some more places, but I thought since it's after 5 and can't do anything else today, I'd ask you guys.

Any ideas or help is GREATLY appreciated!!!

Okay, another update... I found a picture of a rod shifter like mine on here, and it also shows a bolt that seems too short. Is this the right bolt? shrug If you screw the bolt into the housing without the rodshifter, there's it will go in there a good 2" further, but when you attach the rod, it barely goes into the housing at all.

Any insight is greatly appreciated....

Heres a pic of the trans end of a rod shifter, now which bolt are you talking about, red or blue?

He must be talkin about the big one that hold the stability bar(bar that makes sure the shifter box stays where it should in relation to the tranny[so you don't accidently shift by hitting the gas]).
rod shifters have 2 rods, one shifts, one is for stabilizing the shift box, he means the one that holds the stability bar to the tranny, I'd go to a bolt dealer, they have everything usually.
It goes into the tranny about 6-10 threads, not a lot but with a big thread like that that is a bit over an inch, plenty for what it does. IMHO

Ive got the rod shifter in the picture packaged up for delivery, but if he can confirm which bolt it is, Ill pull the shifter out and get the exact specs of the bolt.

Both of the bolts in your pic have nuts attached to them, this bolt I'm talking about I *believe* is indeed the stabilizer, however, I'm not a mechanic by anymeans. I do know however, the bolt screws directly into the backside of the tranny.

If I used some inaccurate terminology, I apologize. doh

Naturally, too, I am at home, while my car is at my uncles an hour east of here. I can get more specific info by getting under there myself if needed. I just didn't want to make the drive out there and back again if I didn't have to.

Also, if it helps, the bolt fell out after I found the stick went nearly dead. It almost refuses to find any gear. Feels more like a joystick than a gear shifter in that I can move it nearly any direction I want. I did however manage to get the car into 1st to drive it onto the trailer. It's stuck there at the moment, as I can't put it into reverse at all. it's like the shifter doesn't move back far enough.

yes, it does sound like you need the bolt for the shifter stabilizer. That would be the bolt with the red arrow pointing to it.

Unfortunately the shifter (packaged up) is in my truck. And my fiance just left with the truck to go to a meeting. headbang

So, I wont be able to get to it until, say 9:30 tonight. shrug Thats Cali time.

I'm assuming that bolt is stock and is the normal length. Seems kinda screwy to me to have a 2.5" hole predrilled and tapped into the tranny housing, only to use the first half inch of it.
