All I know so far is that I have no gears and there was a snap when it when out when starting to back up out of where it was parked. I have been keeping it at a friends house and he said that he went to take it out for a cruise and he went to back it out of his driveway and it moved like a foot and he heard something snap up front and now it has no gears. I was wondering if you could throw the diff pin at such a low speed and I had been road racing the night before so I would think it would have came out then if that was it. I'm going to see if I can check it out today to look at the CV joints and see how it feels going into gears and stuff like that so I'll put an update today or tomarrow, just got the call from him like and hour or two ago. Tip: don't let people use you stuff, especially your car, when you are not around.

With a blown differential you'll still have your gears.

You need to explain more of what "no gears" means. Is it grinding every gear when you try to engage, is your shifter so loose it doesn't seem to engage any gears even though there's no grinding and it's in the correct gear selection, do the gears engage but it doesn't go any where when throttle is applied.....explain.

sounds like maybe a bad cv shaft or shafts....usually if the cv joints let go the car will not move..almost like being in neutral...

My tranny crapped out on me as well and I have no gears at all. It still grinds going into reverse(like it should) when I don't wait a second or put it into a different gear first. :bonk: it goes int oall gears and feels fine. The speedo for some reason worked too... I think it's the tranny but not sure. I plan to get under it this weekend and find out. It's wierd though. Like you said, if the dif pin goes, the car should still move. Mine won't even budge. I don't hear any noise(although, even if there was a slight sound, my car's so loud, i wouldn't hear it:D). I checked the axles for play but didn't remove them to see if they were in good shape. They have no play so I don't think they're the problem.

I know it doesn't make any sense that it would go when he is backing it up. Like I said I'll take a look at it myself and see what the deal is cuz the diff pin can't go at that low of a speed plus I was racing with it last time it was driven.

if not then something is jamed up like diff
pin or CV shaft blew up big time.
Another thing is does it start????
the TOB could of went through the PP fingers.
just things I see all the time at work

PS: I'm a Transmission apprentice

Here is what he said, the clutch feels like it is still there and he said that he can feel stuff moving in the tranny through the shifter ****, it does run fine, he said it still feels like it is going into all the gears but it just ain't getting power to the wheels, when he was backing it up it moved like a foot and something snaped then it just revved freely. I really want to get a look at the CV joints but I still can't get a ride up there cuz he has been working.

Ok, here's a few things to check.

Halfshafts for sure. Look for transmission fluid where it is sitting. If the halfshaft came out of the tranny there will be fluid. Sometimes when the diff blows at low speeds it won't break the case on the tranny so tranny fluid is not always present. Also inspect the case for damage.

I would also suggest you check the cables on the shifter. You list an 89 in your sig so I'm assuming it is the 89 you're referring to and I'm also assuming that it has a cable shifter. The cables breaking away from the shifting bracket would make a snapping sound at times and I'm sure would be less of a violent sound than a diff pin blowing.

And yes, you can blow a diff pin at any speed. If the pin is compromised it'll go when it lets go which can be at any time, reverse or forward, 1 mph or 100 mph.

How come you're mad at your friend? You were the one out road racing the night before.

I hit a curb

doing 45, it was a simple misjudgement and the right)pass( side halfshaft broke, not only did it not move, it did move, that is the side that effects if it is stopped when in park, so if it is the pass side, you will be able to move it even in park, gear or whatever, just not under the power of the Yami! LOL, but seriously, watch out, if you rev up the motor, the shaft will VIOLENTLY flap around inside the tight clearance in the wheel well. NOT GOOD!

ok, here's the deal, the speedo works and all the gears are there and it even grinds a little when you put it in reverse like it always does but I put it in gear ( which now I can do without using the clutch and no grinding ) and I looked under it and I didn't see any part of the halfshafts moving and the speedo said it was going like 7 mph. Also there is such little resistence that is I have it in gear and push the clutch all the way in and rev it up the speedo goes up. Is it still a halfshaft or is it something else?

I sent you an email about it. It was my halfshaft and that is the same problems I am having with mine. Check out my email and let me know how it goes!

Got it figuered out, stupid NAPA halfshaft twisted off where the C-clip goes on the driver side halfshaft. I'm going to see if they will take it back.

Check out my post in the emergency maintanence section and tell me if that's where yours snapped too. I have Napa rebuilt axles too. It was my drivers side as well.
