Hi all, done some searching but havent found the answer to this yet.

Finally found my new engine, yehaw. Just waiting for it to get shipped. Anyway, as long as its out, I want to put on some underdrive pulleys. Is there anywhere that sells them besides the shoshop.

I delt with them four years ago and my experience was such that I really dont want to again.

I would prefer the two piece set, not the one piece set that ASP sells. Seems to be a better desing to me, Maybe Im wrong.

Let me know what yall think. I value all you opinions.

Hope everyone had fun at convention.

take care all.

I've got the SHO Slop pulleys. It took three attempts to get an alternator pulley that would have fit. I don't have it on the car yet but I do have the power steering pulley that wobbles. It's coming off the car and going in the garbage. Don't waste your money at that vendor.

Doug Lewis sells a pulley. I don't know if it's the same pulley as the ASP pulley.

An underdrive pulley replaces either the crank pulley (which drives the accessories) or replaces the accessory pulleys (alternator, power steering pump, a/c compressor pulley). The SHO slop pulleys only replace the alt and p/s but don't bother as neither are worth the money and probably don't fit.

The single pulley is easier to swap when compared to the two pulley SHO Slop used to sell (although they claimed it was easier to install their pulleys).

Anyway, the point of UDPs is to slow down the accessories. In theory this gains you some power and lengthens the life of your accessories. The downside is that the alternator will turn slower so it won't put out as much power (especially at idle). Also the power steering might not be as effective (I haven't noticed a real big difference) and the A/C might not cool as well at lower speeds with the crank pulley.

What he said,

Our ASP crank pulley is 25% smaller in diameter, so it slows the belt speed down by 25%. This makes the accessories turn slower which requires less hp to do the job. Less hp sucked off the front of the crank means more hp can go to the wheels instead.

There is a downside to slowing the belt speed down. In hot idle traffic, the A/C tends to warm up just a little and the alternator doesn't give you a full charge at idle. Raising the idle just a few hudered rpm will solve the problem. But at anything above idle, all the accessories work perfectly.

Another upside is that by slowing the accessories down, they tend to live longer because they are not working as hard.

Hope this helps and when you're ready, give us a call.

Mr Lewis, did you get the ASP pulleys back in? I called a few weeks ago to get in on the group buy for the excalibrator and talked to, god, Im going to get his name wrong. Larry? He said they had been ordered a month ago and had yet to show up.

Take care all

My old engine is out, new one going in hopefully be driving it this weekend.
