Where do you plan on buying them from? I've heard of them self destructing though because they where too weak. You should read up on them on v8sho.com before you buy. Personaly I don't think they're worth it but that's just my 2cents.

Overall for the money that they cost, they actaully are a decent modification..Ive felt difference on cars with them on. For example my buddies all have fox bodies, and on thier 5.0's for around $100 bucks, the butt dyno approves...it helps somwhere in the power band..

All the crying about UDP crank pulleys separating is garbage. The failure was limited to the first handful of pulleys (both V6 and V8), but they got a bad rep from that that persists to this day.

In any case, the only readily-available UDP for the V8 is the ASP, which is only a UDP crank pulley. The SHO Shop pulleys, if you could get them (highly doubtful) never had a workable alternator pulley. Kirk ran the ASP on his for quite some time, and even with sh!tloads of NOS, never had a problem.

Now, he also said he never saw any gain from it either. Main advantage of UDP's is to protect the accessories at high revs. Unless you've got a custom chip or PCM, you'll never be able to rev the motor high enough to damage the assy's.

The ASP is easy to install. If you were able to get the SHO Shop pulleys, they take a little more work, but in any case shouldn't take more than an hour.

Exactly. As far as I know there was only 1 documented failure of the GenIII UDP's...perhaps 2? Find me an aftermarket part that doesn't have at least 1 failure...

I've had mine on for about 50k miles with no problems.

Whether or not it is a worthwhile mod is debatable...as with every GenIII mod. But, with the limited things available on this car, it can't be ignored. I personally think mine made a marginal difference and I have proven my car to run stronger than some other stock GenIII's, so in that regard, it is worthwhile.

I've had the SHO Shop crank UDP on my car for at lest 70k miles. No problems. I use the VAK too. :)

I got the ASP underdrive crank pulley also. I don't believe I could tell with the butt dyno. But I know it had to help. How much hp or time off in the 1/4, I don't know. When you compare the two together, there is a big difference. Its like going from the big sprocket on the front of your 10 speed bike to the small sprocket. Its easier to peddle. So for the engine its easier to turn. No problems with mine.
I also like SHOZ123(Paul)said, run the VAK. And I got it from him. :thumb:

Some people say that the UDP(s) do nothing. I don't believe that.

Look at the guy with the Duratec SLO. He's run better times than a lot of SHO's (V8's and V6's too). He doesn't have much in mods but he does have a pulley. Also, the other guys with good ETs seem to have them. My car doesn't have them installed yet but they've should go on before Lapeer in October. Gotta keep kicking Larry's butt.

I suspect a UDP does something, Ian, but how much has always been a subject of debate. I seem to recall the the SHOSHOP claimed 5hp gain for their set, back long ago when they sold it. I do not recall ever reading any solid numbers derived from a repeated test structure, though.

Not going to happen this time my friend. New mod - faster engine!:**-
It will be interesting to see if there will be any distinction between my 120K now retired 97 motor, and the low serial numbered 96 that is going in. No other changes are being made, other than replacing the failed cam and welding the others. I just happen to have a couple of spare welded cams. Looking forward to seeing you guys up there in October. Are you planning on Gingerman as well??

I'll be at Lapeer but won't make Gingerman. I've used up all my time off and I'll be super busy at work (making up for the last 2 years). Hopefully I'll be able to make Lapeer.

ASP Pulley

For what it's worth, we've got them in stock. They are crank only and have a dampner built in with injected molded rubber.

The pulley sells for $199 and the belt ads $50. Shipping depends on how fast you want them.

Interested, drop me a line.
