im getting an airbag fault(9 blinks)what does that mean?
also after long periods of driving, like on the interstate, when i get of the car sputters and then shuts off...then when i turn it off and turn it back on it just makes areally loud hum from the fuel pump. Is that a sign of a bad fuel pump or is there another underlying problem?

No help on the airbag fault, but I had similar issues on the fuel pump as you are experiencing. Just had a local mechanic install the 195lph pump that everyone here recommends. Problems went away! Do a quick search on other fuel pump threads. Also, see the shotimes.com article on installing a fuel pump in case you want to do this yourself.

The SHOtimes site (http://216.92.187.145) shows the air bag diagnostic codes. The code "9" is defined as "Primary crash sensor circuit - open or high resistence."

The description of the fuel pump condition was less than clear, but it could very well be a worn out fuel pump. When you turn the ignition key to ON (not START) and the fuel pump spins for a couple of seconds, does it sound like it is struggling? Have you received any CHECK ENGINE lights? That may give you more help to diagnose the condition.

well when i turn the key to the the on positin the fuel pump makes a different humming noise...it seems to be more louder, and if i let it sit for an hour or two when i turn it back to the on positin the fuel pump sounds fine and it runs perfect, does that help to clarify anything?... thanx

I know sdpatt can offer much better technical advice but again, you are describing similar experiences that I had last week. If it was a cold start, I had no problems. When I would start it after driving for 15-20 minutes, I could hear a straining noise out of the rear of the car. Also felt like I noticed a loss of power. New pump and the problems have disappeared.

Here's the website of where I purchased my fuel pump, http://www.autoperformanceengineering.com/
Part number FPF001. The wiring harness does not match up so the wires will need to be spliced. Other than that, it fit right in!
Hope this helps!
