I am getting ready to do my valve adjustment tomorrow and was wondering about this. This is what SHOtimes says "Once your into the cams, keep the car in gear and push it back and forth to reposition the cams for measurement." What should I be pushing back and forth, or is there an easier way to move the cams with out the timing belt off?

There most certainly is. If you can get a 1/2" drive ratchet on with the appropriate sized socket (the size escapes me right now), you can use that to turn the crank, and thus the cams, to measure the shims.

I forgot all about doing it that way. I believe it is an 18mm socket.

Did it this weekend. Plugs out. Battery tray out (this helps)

Ratchet with 19mm socket. Engine turn easy at this point.

Goos Luck!

You should always turn the crank clockwise (top of damper to the front of the car). It is easier to turn the crank with the plugs out, but there is also the chance that you will drop something into the open hole in the top of the cylinders that way. You should at least cover or plug the spark plug wells with paper towels to prvent this from happening. I turn the crank with a socket wrench on the crank and the plugs installed. I just move the wrench more slowly to let the cylinders' pressure and vacuum bleed off. It still only takes a couple of fingers to turn the (18") wrench.

Why not bump the starter? With no coil? or plug wires?

tried that once, even the smallest bump moved the crank too far, and the stop point was not where you want it. Like a previous post said, it is possible to turn it over by hand wrench with the plugs in. By the way, if the engine is cranked while the valve covers are off, be prepared for an oil shower. it will really squirt from the chain tensioners.
