How do you turn just the cams on just one side? I have the timing belt off and I am trying to realign my 3.2 with 3.0 cams. One side is right one, the other I can not get to turn.
Thanks,
Eric

I haven't done this yet. Is there a bolt securing the cam pully to its shaft. If yes then put a socket on a ratchet and turn it clock wise.

make sure you are placing the ratchet on the bolt so that the handle passes directly away from the cam shaft if that still doesn't work you may need a strap wrench. But I don't thing it should be that hard to turn. You could put the belt on turn the crank shaft with a ratchet to position the cam then try turning the other cam to see if it is easier to turn (don't forget to reposition the cranck though).

I have tried every bolt and angle I can think of on the sprocket itself. I have also tried using an old timing belt and just the one sprocket with no luck. I cannot decide if I installed this cam in the wrong position and I need to reinstall it or the valve springs are just that stiff and I am fighting it.
Thanks,
Eric

You should be able to put a wrench and turn in by one of those 3 small bolts.

i'm not sure if this is what you want to do or not but......put the timing belt on, set the tensioner, put a block of wood under the drivers side tire, put the tire back on the passenger side, and then turn the tire in a clockwise direction. i don't know if this is what you want to do but this will turn the cams for you.

If it's a motor that has been run recently, they turn pretty easy (a ratchet on one of the cam pulley retaining bolts, and a little help from your other hand around the pulley). If the motor has sat for awhile, sometimes they get a little "sticky" to turn. Valve springs, seating, etc. I know my 3.2L was like that when I got it, hard to turn the cams after it sat for awhile.

You are having problems with just one cam? Put the timing belt on it, and turn the crank with a 19mm socket and long ratchet. See if it'll move. Or if you have the vavle cover off, find the "Hex" portion of the camshaft and turn it with an adjustable wrench.

The motor is out on the floor of my garage right now. Along with two other SHO motors...
The motor has sat for a while since it is a zero mile take-out. I am going to take the cover off again and turn it by the hex.
Thanks for everyone's help. I will let you know how it turns out.
