Dang. Here I thought my rate of $121/hour was absurdly high. I rarely take my vehicles to the shops but the local shop I do use charges $60/hour and I've always assumed that was pretty normal. I would crap a brick at $180/hour.

They probably stated incorrectly the removal of the block for repair. If they're charging ~8.5 hours for replacement of both turbos that's the same number they told me from their system and doesn't include pulling the engine.

Admittedly, they're a very shady dealership. I've only used them for basic warranty and recall work. Unfortunately, the dealership I'd prefer to work with is 60 miles away. Superior customer service but it's inconveniently far away.

I think it'd be worth going to the Good Guys for major work like this, if you can.

I would check to see what the other dealer charges for labor rate. If it's significantly cheaper it might be worth taking to the other dealership for the work. But I see it says you're in San Francisco so that might be the normal rate there and the price to pay.

I was thinking about trying to go with an upgraded turbo and Off Road down pipes since the DP's will have to be removed in order to replace the turbos so I'm hoping to at least not have to pay labor for the DP upgrade (trying to make lemonade out of the lemons I'm being thrown here) I saw Eco Power Performance 1600 dollar turbos with 800 dollar core fee... does anyone have any experience with them... they said they have an upgraded vein design and a higher PSI wastegate... what does that really mean for me? Does it mean increased reliability as well as better power or is it not worth the additional cost?

can anyone shed light on this?
