TUNING....SHOULD I WAIT???????

I have a 2015 SHO (totally stock, for now) with 10K left on the factory warranty. I've been told if you need to take it in for warranty work just flash it back to the stock tune and put the 2bar map back on...so that's no big deal. But, I've also been told Ford can tell that a car has been reprogrammed and may not honor any warranty work. Has anyone dealt with this? Thoughts? Should I wait another 10K to get the tune?

I believe they can only count the number of times the computer has been flashed, not what the flashes were. So thirty computer flashes could have been from a Friday drunk day at the factory.

I personally say don't wait. Keep the tuner, 2-bar, and a socket (maybe a portable lithium battery charger) in a small toolbox in the trunk and have no worries. I thought the car was great (mine is also a '15) until I added the Livernois Hurricane kit - now, stock is untenable.

I would be surprised if they even checked. Tune it. It's a much nicer car when tuned.

Seriously though, if your car is well taken care of and maintenance is up to date, it is definitely ready for tuning. Just remember to use the SEVERE SERVICE schedule for maintenance instead of NORMAL SERVICE, as an outer limit guide. At a minimum, you will want to consider new spark plugs also when you tune, or shortly after.

There is always an inherent risk with something not being covered under warranty, we recommend being open with your service writer but generally returning to stock and religious maintenance you should see plenty of long and enjoyable miles out of your SHO

I would say the answer depends on where you live and how many miles you drive the car per year. If you live in Minnesota and drive the car 15k miles/year, I would say you may want to wait. Reason being, it's currently winter and you're not likely to use the tune until it gets warm again and they bring back summer gas. So why even risk a warranty issue on something if you're not going to use it for another 4 months. However, if you're in Florida then I don't really see any point in waiting because you can use the power from the tune now

You're overthinking it, tune it NOW!!! I'm running the LMS 91 tune (for winter) and it's been flawless the last 10k miles I've put on it. Tuned mine around 53k and I have a 100K warranty. After you tune it, you'll kick yourself for not doing it the first day you bought your SHO!

Like Majestic said, there is no reason for them to check or be suspicious unless you have a catastrophic engine failure - which is HIGHLY unlikely with a tune from a reputable tuner.

These cars have so many fail safes built into them, that the tuner would need to be a complete nincompoop to blow up an engine... or they purposely disabled the fail safes...like ***

Most Service Writers are "car guys," too and appreciate "quality," mods / work. I've had mine tuned by LMS since only 1,000 miles on the clock and been to the dealer several times. One time they had to check the computer and somehow they knew DTC codes were removed (which is done when you install a tune) so they asked me about it - I was nervous because this was the first time I was asked about it - I just told them "a friend of mine has an OBD device and was just checking my computer." They said OK. But since then I've been working with the same Service Writer (Mark) at the dealer and he likes my car and we talk cars, etc and I finally told him I tuned it and he didn't give a $hit at all! I still always flash it back to Stock and reinstall the 2-bar just in case they do some computer upgrades which they just did 2 weeks ago with a software update for my transmission. Now LMS is writing new tunes for me because the Strategy Code changed with this update and it's free!! Part of the LMS quality of service they provide with their tunes!

SO.....long story, short......TUNE THAT THING ALREADY!!! GEES!

My 2016 just hit 5K miles and I tuned it before 3K. I did have it in the shop because one of the rear seat heaters stopped working so I put it back to stock and swapped out the 3BAR. Will tune it again this weekend.

I have a 2017 continental. I will be getting a tune for it after a couple thousand miles or so.
