Hey guys,

So i have a 2010 SHO with about 81k on the clock and recently there is a noise coming from the front right wheel when I turn left at all. its a sort of scrapping noise that kind of sounds like the wear bars on the brake pads to let you know your pads are low but I can't figure out how it could be these just from turning left and right. It also is noticable when you step on the brakes fairly hard but not if you are just easily stopping like in everyday traffic. Check out the video below and let me know what you think. Thanks for the help!

What is the most recent service history on your SHO? Is the noise only when car is first driven after it's been sitting a while, or pretty much anytime? Are the pads/rotors still original to the car? Are the rotors smooth, or are they grooved/worn? If the pads are loose or not moving freely, that could generate noise. Sticking slide pins or improperly installed antirattle clips could be the culprits, for instance. If you ease into the brakes, the pads are more easily able to mate properly to the rotor. No point in machining the rotors for the long run, the noise will return. Replace rotors & pads as a set if either has issues.

There was a TSB some time ago for grunt/grind noises from the brakes:

But it could be something as simple as a loose fender liner, from aging clips or removal for service, or an accident. Haven't heard of a wheel bearing causing the sound, but look into that also if brakes/fender liner don't work out.

Still no joy? Check the suspension (strut/spring/seat).

typical first symptom of a bad wheel bearing on a disk brake vehicle is the type of scraping sound when turning that you mention.

Did you actually check if the pads still have any "meat" left? That sounds like the pads are worn down to the metal. Not all the way, mind you, but it really sounds like one of the pads are worn down unevenly, and one side of the metal of the pad is starting to contact the rotors.

When you turn the wheel, everything flexes, and the wheel bearing always has some give to it. So the rotor will actually move a slight bit toward or away from the pads.

It could be any one of the things above, but the sound in the video really sounds like plain old worn pads to me.

I have the same noise in my 2011 74k mi. About 5k ago ford replaced the front half shafts and just before that I replaced the brakes on the car I took the car apart pads and rotors are good as should be basically new. The noise on my car is on the drivers side. Will be replacing the driver side bearing next weekend.
