I’m curious if anybody has fitted any sort of trunk actuator for power open/close? I mainly want it to open all the way when I pop it but I’d love power close as well. I have seen the tuner guys use springs to pop it fully open.

Too bad you couldn't retrofit a setup from the Ford SUVs that have that factory option.

We linked a post in here to the upgraded S550 Mustang trunk struts somewhere. One of the guys installed them and I think he said they worked fine. They actually pop the trunk all the way up.
He wants full power open and close.

I would love full power but to hit the trunk button on the fob and have it fully open would be a big upgrade as well!

Yes sir! Somebody else’s posted that they got them and he still had to help the trunk up ☹️
Maybe step up to the https://www.steeda.com/steeda-555-0697-s550-trunk-pop-kit? These are for the GT350R and large wing/spoiler cars. I would assume there are 2 things in play, weight the strut is designed to lift and if the trunk is popped past the over center rotation point to allow the strut to lift. I am going to do some searching and see what the strut lift rating is for the stock struts on both vehicles. I would need more information on which struts Steeda is using to compare those to the stock Taurus struts though.

I will install the ones I ordered and if it doesn’t fully open, I will exchange them for the one you just linked

Doing a quick search on RockAuto, I compared a 2019 Mustang with 5.2L with spoiler to the 2015 Taurus SHO with spoiler. The STOCK struts from Stabilus are:

Mustang
375 N Lift Force
84 lb Lift Force

Taurus
620 N Lift Force
139 lb Lift Force

Going by this, the Steeda parts I listed would need to be almost twice as strong just to match our factory parts. If you could find a manufacturer that listed the specifications of their product, you could search for a strut with more lifting force, 0.748" diameter, 9.075" compressed length and 12.539" extended length (or similar). Make sure it was the same connection style.

Part mixing like this used to be a lot easier with paper catalogs and cross references.

I posted about some stronger lifts that I installed in another thread. I don't think the angle of the struts is conducive to having the trunk fully open on its own. The stronger struts I installed will slam the trunk lid hard against the plastic stops if I don't keep my hand on the lid when I open it. And it is more difficult to close.
