Was wondering if it's at all possible to remove and replace the trunk release button elsewhere inside the car and fill the existing hole with something.. Any ideas.

Just have to extend the wires to where you want it to be moved and fashion a way to mount the switch. As far as filling in the hole I know they make kits for smaller holes in dashes but that would be a big hole. Would take some custom fab work from a person who is very familiar with working with that type of plastic.

I checked the service manual, its just a ground connection through a momentary switch. You could use any momentary switch to do it.

That's what I was thinking, I figured you could fill it with one of the steeds racing cigarette plugs I have from past vehicles. Or a random plastic plug you get from the cheapy stores.

There should be plenty of room behind it to mount something else once it is removed. Why move it though?

That spot has to be the worst spot for something Like that. Put it in the glove box or on the door. I already acquired one through a friend at a dealer. Thanks a lot.

Now I'm going to need to try my experiment again. I thought a couple years ago I tried the trunk release while going down the road at in-town speeds and nothing in the trunk to find out if the release would work when the vehicle was moving more than a few mph. My recall was it did not work for me when driving down the road but would work when idling up my driveway....

Correct it shouldn't open when moving. But without the IA keyfob in the vehicle while the vehicle is off it will open the trunk.

I'm thinking of going old school like in my '86 5.0, I'll get the yellow trunk button and mount it in the glove box. I have a cigarette plug from silver horse racing that I'll use I place. It might just work.

This is what happens when there's not much of an aftermarket for a car.

People start thinking of silly stuff to scratch that mod itch.

I can agree with the old school trunk pushbutton release. I can remember the yellow ones in the glove compartment. Here is one more idea and thinking out loud here but this might be a good starting point.

This will probably need some contact with Ford.

The trim bezel/panel is probably a vendor item. I do not imagine they have a plastic molding plant on site. What my suggestion was to contact vendor and see if they can send you a panel that does not have the trunk release cutout yet. They could send it to you' It could be a special order since they are probably machined mass production.
I would also suspect the wiring harness is the same should be three wires should be Ground, P/B solenoid and signal source for wire to the instrument panel for the "Trunk Ajar" Warning on the message center

I think this could be a good starting point and a "think outside the box" moment.
