Tried to adjust the tension rod on the trunk lid, the lid wouldn't stay up most of the time. Was trying to move the rod up from the bottom most position to the middle, and the rod just sprung down, against the strut tower and I can not get enough leverage on it to get it back up into place. Any advice?

You have to get a small diameter piece of pipe or tubing (just the right length) to be able to move those rods up a notch. I think the last time I did it I slid a chrome plated bathroom plumbing tube inside a copper tube. You then shove this onto the tip of the trunk tension rod and lever it up. Wear gloves and take your time and be prepared to lay in your trunk.

If you lay down on your back in the trunk and bench-press the suckers, that usually works too. It helps if you can press ~100lbs.
