Does anyone have a list of what FWD AT transmissions will bolt up to a 3.2? I am gonna start gathering parts for my new project (SHO mini van)

The MTX IV, and whatever trans was used in the 3.0 vulcan Probes should bolt up as well

Oh, you asked about auto trans. Sorry. Just use the SHO trans, rebuilt with any improvements made to the trans over the years. The fwd Taurus/continental/windstar trans were all more or less the same basic design with a different final drive in 99 or so, and various other changes per application.

At the very least it has to have the same bellhousing pattern. The only one close to the v6 SHO is the 3.0 Vulcan. And I'm not sure it's exact.

I dont have the SHO trans. Just have the motor but the van has a good trans in it.

The SHO Auto trannies are controlled via the PCM which also controls the engine.

If you manage to swap with a non-sho trans , Im still wondering how you are gonna pull that one off.

t, it depends on what minivan you're wanting to use. You asked about the Windstar, so I can speak to that one. Off Road SHO has in his garage a SHO motor (and tranny I thought) that came from a one-off Windstar-SHO. If he doesn't have the tranny, he can likely tell you the history of what was used.

Actually thought about buying it and sticking it in my Windstar, but got too many other things going on.

I agree. Controlling a electronic trans without the computer is a problem. It"s a wall I maybe up against soon. [Running non-SHO trans] Maurice.

do you want an atx that just bolts up? or one that actually works?

any atx that mates to a 3.0 vulcan will bolt up, but only the SHO atx will actually work. the van atx has the wrong axle reduction ratio, so the torque converter lockup clutch will never lock up and you will get codes. the regular 3.0 trans will break much faster than the SHO atx does.

Time to search j-yards, craiglist, e-bay etc for a donar car. I would assume from South Dakota and ago of SHO's should be able to find a rusted out one. Good luck. Going to keep a eye on this build. Maurice

I know RCM carries a lot of used SHO parts, including engines and transaxles. I've found some good values, from them, on used parts in the past. You might check with them. :salute:
