Trans is the same. As far as fluid, it depends on the trans. Of course they all take ATF, but what works best varies from unit to unit. People have had good luck with Mobil 1, Synchromesh, Valvoline MaxLife, Redline, Royal Purple etc. I would suggest installing a drain plug before you put it in the car. That way it will be easy to service.

Get the diff welded. If you don't, what happened before will happen again! Take to tranny shop have to disassemble it to the diff, and mail it off to someone on here and get it welded right. They mail it back, give to tranny shop and have it put it back together. Also tell them if they spot any problem inside or bad pieces, you can have anyone like me with 2 disassembled complete transmission parts spare you whatever you need. I went through 2 trannys before I got smart and got it welded! Don't make my mistake. They diff pins can blow at any time, any place.

As far as anything else, no difference at all, just to two brackets are different and interchangable.

It is easy to do burnouts with the MTX open diff, since one wheel is spinning while other other isn't, and that is what causes diff pin failure. If you want to save time and are short on money, there is no need to have it welded, and you wont blow the diff pin if you don't do one wheel burnouts.

i could weld the diff myself i work at a performance shop, my transmission blew when i downshifted to turn haha but where would i put a drain plug? and i'm just trying to get the car done so i'm going to just get it in the shop this weekend when were closed. I was just a little scared because i ordered new axle seals for a 92 and they sent the wrong seals and then i asked about an 89 and they got me the right ones

Weld the new diff before you install it.
I also recomend a drain plug.

The axle seals should have been the same, they just did it wrong.

The earlier trans will have different, brass synchros in it. That's about the only difference.

You have to take the whole thing apart. There is a writeup on this site, and shophoenix.com, but the factory service manual is best, because it also shows you how to put it back together.

Great to hear. Now, just because your diff is welded, dosen't mean yu should do burnouts!!!
