Recently I started noticing that when I step on the gas, the car revs higher than normal before upshifting, then it sluggishly shifts to the next gear. It is fine while it is in the gears and it downshifts fine even when I step on it on the highway. I took it to AAMCO and the did a visual inspection, a road test, and checked codes (there were none) and told me that the problem is internal (no surprise there). They told me that it would cost me $695 for them to remove the transmission and figure out what is wrong.

Anyone have any suggestions/advise. The car only has 56,000 miles on it.

How much should it cost to get it looked at? Can they just drop the Pan to see what is going on in the Tranny or do they actually need to remove the whole thing?

Can we tell every part that is bad without a removal... No.

However, a good transmission shop will give you at least a low and a high. Stay away from chain stores if you car. Although there are good ones. A shop that has contests to see how much one can charge for a transmission, is not somewhere you should take your car.

Good luck. Search ATRA shops. www.atra.com
