Hi Guys--
I have a 1991 MTX with 112k miles on it. I had it New York state inspected last week and it passed with no problem. The tech who inspected it noted that the cooler (looks like a little radiator) pictured below had an oily substance all over it and, thus it had collected a lot of road crude.
This part is located on the driver's side, way down near the bottom of the engine compartment, off to the lower side of the radiator.
The inspection was done at the Ford dealer. The tech says he thinks it may be some kind of aftermarket cooler, but I have owned my SHO since it was brand new and have all the service records. I don't recall, and my records don't show, any cooler being installed at any time.
Can anybody identify this part?
How about a part number?
Would it still be available?
Thanks

Exactly what he said. It's the PS cooler. Yours does appear to be in very good condition. You might check the clamps to see if they are tight enough. I ended up having to replace my hoses because they were so old and brittle. Spray it down with some degreaser and give it a good wash. That should help you determine where the saturation is coming from.

after all these years, the hoses to the ps cooler are hard as rocks, and most likely leaking at one or more of the connections. I would replace them.

Thanks for your information. You can tell I was on the wrong track and wasn't considering power steering cooler at all.
Can you tell me the parts numbers for the replacement power steering cooler lines?
Thanks

iirc, they are both just straight hose with clamps on each end. you just need oil-resistant hose of the right size.

The hose coming from the rack to the cooler is Gates #364720 and can be bought online or at Oreillys. The hose coming off the cooler and running back to the reservoir is 5/16s transmission hose which can be bought in bulk at Oreillys too.
