I have a 97 SHO and my trans overdrive light is blinking and it shifts hard into second gear. I had it checked for code but no codes came up. Any thoughts?

When was the fluid changed last? And do you know what fluid is in the trans now?

Does it Shift into OD?

or only stay in third? If it doesn't shift into OD, search for the C-clip fix. Didn't work on mine, but worth a check.

It was changed about 3 months ago. I'm not sure what kind of fluid was put in. I will find out. It does shift into overdrive.

possibly speed sensor but that would usually throw a scan-able code? Un-hook your battery and reset your computer. If the light stays off and it shifts fine its probably trans electronic failure. Had a customer in the other day with the same issue and it WAS the speed-sensor with NO trans codes whatso ever. Just a guess at the most minor thing. If the fluids uber black, Your steels and frictions are probably burnt, and its time for a re-build, but yet thats coming from a trans rebuilder viewpoint.

According to my manual, a flashing od light will always set a code - perhaps you need to use another code reader...

my flashing O/D light was caused by a failing TFT sensor(Transmission Fluid Temperature).

This tells the PCM to change the shift strategies depending if its cold or hot.

The flashing OD light will not set a code if the fluid overheats, for instance. Actually it is the TFT going out of range at +300F. But if you shut the car off and the fluid cools then the light stays out and there will be no DTCs to collect.

I'm going to look into the TFT sensor. It seems to do it after the car warms up. Thanks for all of the info!!!
