Well, I finally got my 300 dollar beater (black '93) on the road last night, courtesy of a community college tranny rebuild. My only issue is that there is no converter lockup at all. I am familiar with it taking a long time, or sometimes requiring the car to be restarted due to temperature sensor issues, but I have driven it about 150 miles with the rebuild, and it is not locking up. There is no warranty obviously with my transmission, it was built for the price of the parts. (about 400 dollars worth). I'll have to post some pictures of the parts that were taking out.. mutilated would be a good way to describe anything that had gears on it.
Either way, the tranny goes through all 4 gears, and the OD cut out works, but no lockup. Where should I go looking first? It also seems that this cars check engine light has either burnt out or has been removed. I'll scan it the next day I drive it to work.
