Well, I finally got my 300 dollar beater (black '93) on the road last night, courtesy of a community college tranny rebuild. My only issue is that there is no converter lockup at all. I am familiar with it taking a long time, or sometimes requiring the car to be restarted due to temperature sensor issues, but I have driven it about 150 miles with the rebuild, and it is not locking up. There is no warranty obviously with my transmission, it was built for the price of the parts. (about 400 dollars worth). I'll have to post some pictures of the parts that were taking out.. mutilated would be a good way to describe anything that had gears on it.

Either way, the tranny goes through all 4 gears, and the OD cut out works, but no lockup. Where should I go looking first? It also seems that this cars check engine light has either burnt out or has been removed. I'll scan it the next day I drive it to work.

Just went out for a midnight ride in my newly running car, and made a 3 point turn in the middle of a back road, and *blink* there goes the check engine light. Must've been loose in it's socket or something. It's on solid, and now comes on with the bulb test.

Seeing as no one has any advice, I'll post to myself :eek:P

I scanned the car, it has several codes. One being "turbine speed sensor input insufficient", the others being EGR flow and O2 sensor codes. I was thinking I should've replaced those while my y-pipe was sitting out of the car, but I was trying to be cheap... anyways, the speed sensor seems like it would keep the converter clutch from engaging. Where is it located?

*still posting to self*

Well, I'm a *********. I guess if you plug in the TSS, it works better... the plug was just hovering over the top of it. Of the 100's of connectors to plug together, that was the one I missed. Tranny shifts nice and smooth now, and the converter locks up like a charm.
