ok guys..this is my first post and my first problem with the SHO. I have a 1993 SHO ATX . I love it to death but latley the tranny is acting kinda weird. Sometimes the shifts are weak, and sometimes they are strong as ****. My car latley has had a 2nd gear jolt...like it would shift into 2nd and then a jolt would go through the car directly afterwarnds. Latley the car has downshifted by itself a few times, like i woudl be slowing down and the car feels like it goes from 3rd to 2nd...right into 1st and the RPMS jump higher like i pulled the shifter back into 1st gear.

My O/D light doesnt come on anymore..i cant shift outta OD ...i never do but maybe that has to do with the problem im having.

My car was checked by a shop...the fluid is new, its topped up and the guy said the general computer is fine. i dunno

like i sai dsometimes it shifts perfect..sometimes shifts are sloppy and delayed...,due to it shifting beautiful and firm somedays and crappy others, im thinking its a sensor somewhere...TCC or mayeb the VSS...i dunno ...

my anti-lock light came on , due to 3 of the teeth being chipped off the hub where the sensor reads the speed on the drivers front wheel....i dunno if that has anything to do with it..i highly doubt it.

can anyone give me tips on whats wrong....what to check ?? what would be common on these cars.....any help would be great ..thanx guys

im in college and kinda lack of money sooo i hope its not needing a rebuild...but im ready to hear the truth ....hopefully you guys will take alot of stress of my mind about this car.

Mine has a sloppy 1-2 shift when warmed up but nothing like that. I have 138k on my trans with only 2 known fluid changes. I do have an LPM though which i attribute to my transmission's longevity... it is a Ford.

Your trans may need a rebuild... but I'm no expert.

ok guys..im hoping its a sensor ....the car finds all its gears....doesnt slip or anything......just has weak shifts like there is a delay between gears....a longer one then im used too ,....but it finds all its gears no problem ......i was wondering ...would a TSC shift kit help my car ??? like if i had one installed

also i wanna know if its a sensor...how do i go about checking codes

can anyone tell me if a TCS shift kit would work in my car...like if it would be worth installing....thanx

If the shop you took it to read the codes ( and it sounds like they did ) and there were none. Then most likely you chance on an electronic problem are slim. In most cases when a VSS ( vehicle speed sensor ) goes bad, the symptoms are late and very hard shifts. Or sometimes they will not come out of first at all.

You can try to change your range sensor, that is the only thing that I can think of that will cause the transmission to down shift by itself. It sits on top of the transmission and is a little black box with one plug and some linkage. They are around $40 at the local dealer.

You also may want to check your TPS ( throttle position sensor ). Since our cars are electronic, they do not have a kickdown cable. The tps tells the transmission how much you are on the go-pedal and adjusts the EPC ( electronic pressure control ) solenoid in the transmission making the shifts firm or soft. I do not however, suspect that this will make the car shift into random gears, as you state in your post.

The fluid being clean is a good sign, but being down this road more than once, leads me to think it is internal. And as far as your shift kit question. If you want to install it with a weak transmission, forget about it. If you want to install a shift kit when you rebuild your transmission, then you are on the right track. I would go with a superior shift kit, since you have a 93. Also make sure you update the boost valve, and replace the forward and direct pistons with the steel upgrades.

Good luck and welcome to the forum. If you search 93 and ATX you will see that you are not alone. It was not the best year for the SHO automatic. But when built correctly, they can live almost forever.
