O.K., flame away.. There is a recall/serviced sticker on myATX tranny pan(orange)
That has a warning on it to NOT service it without referring to the TSB etc.
SO, the question is, does anybody know what, if anything was done for a '94
tranny recall service? The trans is solid, so it has been definately been rebuilt
or replaced at least once. 175,000 miles and still gets second gear rubber...
Not likely with the original eh?

I work in a transmission shop and these stickers are common on all Fords (both front and rear wheel drive). I think it had something to do with warranty work or something, I'm not really sure. It could have been rebuilt and the sticker left on it, that's not uncommon either. It's nothing to worry about though...

I was more interested in finding out what in particular was done to the trans.
Sorry if I was not clear. I know it is only a recall/serviced sticker, I just want to know what they may have done to it?

It was part of a quality control tracking program way back in the day. Nothing special was done to the trannys back then except to gather performance or failure data.

The program ended many years ago and the sticker is to be ignored.

I don't think your ATX is supposed to break em loose in second unless it's been modified. I had an ****** that did that, and I exploited it, and it started getting mushy once it warmed up...then, it took a shit. I know a 4EAT is not an AX4S, but that hard shifting can't be good for a stock tranny...

Do those AX4S' have an adjustable kickdown cable like the ******'s 4EAT? That would probably be your problem...

As Steve mentioned, it was just a way for Ford to monitor tranny failures after the cars were built.

There was no recall.

That is kinda stupid saying not to "service" the transmission, which will just replace the filter and fluid. Yet you can go to a quick **** place and they can "flush" your transmission using the cooler line which does more harm then anything because it just sends all that stuff back though the filter and doesn't really do much. I also work at a transmission shop.

Not stupid at all. A new tranny fails, factory has dealer pull it, install a replacement and ship the failed tranny back for analysis. It's hard to make an accurate analysis of what failed if the tranny has been serviced in the field.

-in '93 there were a # of reported failures in SHO ax4s'. there were alot of upgrades done to the '94 model year along with a processor calibration change. those stickers came on the unit from the factory, and should a failure occur, you(the tech) was to call the number and talk with the powertrain engineers BEFORE removing the unit OR dropping the pan.....this was to guage quality of the new revised trans and calibrations to determine if there were any common factors in the tranny failures.....

AHHH.. Then it is probably there to keep techs. from using pre-'94 parts..
There are a few of those stickers around my car, the only one I could even
read a portion of was the orange one on the tranny.. There was a blue one
on the pass. side of the engine compartment. And a green one somewhere
underneath.. I guess I have to look up all the '94ATX T.S.B.'s.. sigh....:oogle:
Thanks for all the help, guys.
