Hey guys im sure youve seen my other post about tranny possibly being shot and it looks as if thats whats going on.I went and had tranny tested and shop says everything looks good as in pressure and tranny pump woking etc...Says it has to be something that snapped inside. There was no shrapnel when we took off tranny pan(oh ya this is on a 95 atx), so i had a suggestion from my other post that my chain broke. The tranny shop says i would of heard a loud noise before it went cause he says they stretch first.Anyways, if i did break the chain does that screw up anything else or can i just replace that chain? My tranny was rebuilt 17,000 ago and dont think i should do a complete rebuild again if i dont have to.Pulling the engine and tranny this week and have another tranny on standby, if needed. So what do you think? What type of gaskets, and other parts will i need when replacing the tranny? Thanks for all your help!

I'm willing to bet that your tranny broken the low intermediate drum from its sun gear, ask netviper about a tranny thats ck'd out pressure and electronic controls were fine.If you broke the chain you would either hear it when you start the car or by rolling the car and it would most likly lock up the tranny when it gets rapped aroud it's self. just a few qustions:: does it have first gear when selected manually?, do you have reverse? do you have any failure codes.

As for any gaskets for the swap/exchange only exhaust gaskets i think can't remember and maybe a rear main seal if its leaking

Why isnt your shop fixing it as warranty?

Items that could get damaged are the drive sprocket, the driven sprocket with it's exciter wheel,or the shift rail and connected linkages.IThe chain could causes cracks tothe three accumulator housings and the turbine speed sensor. if you need some pics I can e-mail them to you.

There was no symptoms before tranny went.I was just driving along and came to slow roll, when i went to accelerate was as if it was in neutral.I have no gears at all.Park does work. When i start it there is like a small clinging noise coming from tranny(i assume since it didnt make this noise previously).Warrenty was 12,000 or 1 year. Its been about 2 years and 17,000.I should have known it was going to go shortly after 12,000...isnt that how it always goes? :frown: I havent checked codes yet, didnt really think tranny would send codes if something broke inside. That would be great if i could get some pics from you 95SHO32. Im pulling the engine and tranny in the next couple days here.Should be alot of fun, and yes im gonna try to pull it out the top.Thank god weather here in Minnesota is a nice 30 degrees this week. Thanks for all the suggestions!

You could pull the turbine speed sensor and ck to see if the driven shaft spins when the car is running, It's on the drivers side of the trans behind the valve body pan/cover, you might have to pull the wheel and put it one a jack stand,it doesn't need to be in gear just running, you should see the teeth of the exciter wheel moving by if the chain is in one piece, this will set a code for no turbine sensor but you'll know where that code came from. You might even see the chain on the driven sprocket. If you are going to open the trans get the ATSG techtran manual for the AODE/AX4S. trans. I bought mine for $10.

Man that sounds like a lot of work! I helped a buddy drop his MTX out of a '95 a couple weeks ago. We took it out the bottom. Wonder which way is easier?

The worst part was the bruise left on my chest from the tranny falling on me!!!
