im curious about a 2nd gear rebuild. Anybody ever have just that done? My friend whos done a lot of mechanic work thinks it would be around 300 but hes not sure about shos. Ive never actutaly been inside a sho tranny so i really dont have any ideas.

You mean just replacing the 1st-2nd blocking ring (the wear part that causes hard shifting/grinding)? Not worth it. While you have the case opened its worth your while to at least do a complete refresh (all blocking rings at least) and inspect/replace the diff roll pins.

im on somewhat of a cash crunch at the moment, thats why i wouldnt have it all rebuilt. To be honest i never really hear of anything else but 2nd going and the diff blowing. How much do you think it would be to have all the blocking rings rebuilt

Check your PM's. I would do a refresh for you for a decent price. I'm over in Albany, NY bout 2 hours from ya. I can get all the parts within a day and I've done a few of them now.
