This is the problem. I will start car, tranny will work great. Shift is nice and no bang. After driving car for 20 min. the tranny wants to slip. This only happens after car is warm, never when it's cold. It feels like it just misses catching a gear. Usually while downshifting or after i come to complete stop. But once it catches, it will drive fine. Just got a new VSS on it, so i know that is not problem, but was throwing code for VSS.I am stumped here and trying not to have to rebuild yet.But if it comes to that, what upgrades should i be looking for.:thankyou:

Since no help maybe a little more of an explanation.Got 60k done by Area91 and on way back while on highway i was merging form one highway to another. Speed went from 70-75 to about 40 while i was merging. When i went to accelerate there was nothing. The pedal just went to the floor and rpms went up. Pulled over to side, put it in park then tried going again, shifted into gears a little rough. When i started to go again my father called me to tell me i was leaking something (he was behind me). A straight seam of fluid, looked as if it was coming from passsenger side. Got AAA home. Next day i try to drive her and it is like nothing was ever wrong, then after 20 min it is like i described before. This is only a priodical thing, it will come and go away. Seems to me like it is a electronical problem. Because when it misses a gear or when it catches a gear there is no strain, noise or any feeling in the tranny itself. ANY suggestions please!

Did you check to see what was leaking and address that issue? Have you checked or tried changing the transmission fluid yet to see if that helps?

Agreed, check tranny fluid level and investigate source of leak

Tranny was just flushed. The leak seems to have vanished, it doesnt leak any more and there were no marks so tracing it i could not do. The levels are fine, it was about a quart short after it stopped working on highway. Maybe could be a line somewhere i am thinking, messing with the pressure. When the tranny wants to mess up there is no grinding or strain in tranny. Thanks for input so far. If i am looking at a rebuild what upgrades should i get.

If I understand your probllem, you 'stomp' on it to accelerate and it doesn't... That usually means a pressure loss... The ATX is driven by pressure from the Torque converter & regulated by solenoids & such in the ATx, very simplified.
If it works cold, the fluid is thicker and gives more pressure than as it warms up and becomes thinner. (lots of technical jargon here!)..lol.
Anyway, I would guess you either have a line damaged, clogged, plugged or you could have a bad passenger side axle seal that is causing the leaking and your torque converter isn't giving you the pressure you need.
There are alot of areas that could cause this issue.. And why everyone likes the MTX better than the ATX for repair (IMHO)... ATX to rebuild is gonna cost ya 2-3k at this point to have it done right at a 'shop'.. (*right* here is defined as really right, not screwed up by some hack job shop that rips customers off).

Couple quick things to clarify:

When you checked your tranny fluid level, was the car sitting on a flat surface with the engine running in Park?

If the Tranny fluid is not low, is it slightly overfilled? or is it right on the mark?

overfilling the tranny will sometimes cause the fluid to become aerated. and because the auto transmission is hydraulic, the air bubbles will compress and the transmission wont function properly.

If the Transmission was topped up, what type of tranny fluid did you put in it?

Everything Mark in PDX says kind of hit it the head on the nail, but shoon has a legit point and i am gonna flush system again. Maybe some air got in there. But on what Mark said, is there any tests or tips on how i can check to make sure pressure is good. Because the problem is very intermidate. On the passenger side axel seal is this something easy to replace or check. Thanks for the info so far i finally feel like im getting somewhere.

hate to be the barer or bad news but sounds like the trans is going out to me.

i doubt its this but its one thing you can check... check out the VSS maybe its on its way out and it will cause the trans to act weird as ****

but i still vote for trans rebuild.

ive delt with a few autos going out and they all seem to act sorta the same on the way out

Where is this and is it easy to replace ? passenger side axle seal! I think this is the problem because i think this is where the leak was coming from.Is there any way to check lines?

For an upgrade go for a trans-go shift kit, it comes with better solenoids and a few other mods in the kit. Also add a aux transmission cooler and temp gauge so that when the tranny is rebuilt it will last longer and you will know if it starts to overheat. Make sure they give you a brand new torque conv. You dont want to keep that one thats already in there.

Thanks for the info. Is this all upgrades i should be looking for or is there more?

You can change the axle seal while the trans is in the car.
You first need to pull the axle though.
LMK if I can help.:thumb:

Area 91, believe me i wish i could come back down, but i dont think she will make it with her acting up like this. I am trying to diagnos the problem. I got the VSS changed but did not help. I am gonna go get the 94 comp, and a new TPS. To see if that helps. Good luck with the 94 Opal Frost. I will be getting in contact with you in the near future.
