I currently have Raybestos Brute Stops for a 94-95 rotor (Carbon Metallic) on the front of my car with the '96 upgrade. Does anyone have any experience with these pads on a track? If these are not a good choice what pads work well with '96 upgrade for track use: Hawk, EBC, Carbotech...(something that fits the 96 brakes correctly would be nice but not required?) Should I upgrade my oem type semi metallic rear pads as well or are they not going to get that hot? Thanks.

i'm not sure which pad the mid west 96+ kit comes with but those are no good for the track they are AMAZING on the street but they overheat and start billowing smoke after 4-5 very hard laps, they just arn't track pads.

I have been told PFC's or the top end autozone pad is a very good one for the track and will try these next year

If you get the OEM GEN 3 pads they are quite up to the task of both street, track and are gentle on the rotors.

I was hoping that I could just swap in and out, but with the carbon metallic pads you have to stay with carbon metallic or have the rotor machined. Once the rotor is carbon loaded other non-carbon pads just don,t work from what I have read.

Bah, once you bed in some the OEM semi metallics the rotor will be down to clean shiny cast iron.

more rubber, more HP.....
I have tried the Axxis Ultimate pads. Made of a ceramic / metallic / kevlar compound that is advertised as a combined street / track type pad. Pretty darn good stopping power and fade resistance. They're every bit as aggressive as the Hawk HP PLUS which are carbon / metallic. But the Axxis Ultimates do not dust as heavily and they seem to be gentler on the rotors. In my experience (YMMV), the fade resistance of the Axxis Ultimates both on the track and during highly aggressive street-driving is a little bit better than the Hawk HP PLUS, but nevertheless I have experienced fade with both pads when pushed hard enough. Neither is a dedicated race-only pad.

When I switched from the carbon-metallic Hawks to the non-carbon Axxis Ultimates, I sanded the rotors with 130 Grit then 200 Grit sandpaper then blasted the surface with brake cleaner to remove the carbon layer. New pads worked fine. YMMV.
