as the title says, the boot ripped. I will take it in to get done because I dont have time to do it myself. how long can I drive with it like this until something starts to get dangerous? I dont have time right now but next weekend would be when I could take it in. is that too long to wait? thanks.

Just for the record, if you were willing to do the work yourself, you could buy a remanufactured CV halfshaft (with two new boots - inner and outer - and rebuilt CV joints) with a lifetime warranty for about $60. It takes me about 30 minutes to swap a halfshaft. Just know that it an be done for a very reasonable price.

If you have a torn boot the grease gets thrown out AND dirt or water get in. Either way the axel should be replaced. If you are going to pay the labor to remove and replace the shaft and the boot you can have a new axel for a few dollars more. If the mechanic takes the time to dissasemble the CV joint and clean and inspect it you are paying for his time. It will be cheaper, and you will be better off, if you replace the shaft.
