How fast will a stock ATX 3.2 go?
How high will the engine pull in high gear? Had someone tell me that the SHO would not go past 125mph.Feels like it is faster to me though.

WHO the **** told you that? Their just full of BS, man there are MANY people on here that have had there SHO up to 140+ myself included, some say its drag limited to 143, others say there is tramendous error with the speedo at that speed (which is possible) But to be frank, the SHO will better 143 in the right conditions. I had my 89 to ~148, I had my moms 94 ATX up to 134, but still had some juice left in her.

I agree with you on the potential of the SHO top speed.
My friend has a 95 SS Impala and thinks it will out run the SHO.I know he has 300hp in the SS but is also heavy.
Has anyone ran an SS Impala with the 300hp V-8? I know my friend would die if I outran his Chevy.

FYI, the stock Imp SS is something like 260hp, not 300. I contemplated buying a Dark Cherry 96 Imp SS before settling on a 93 SHO MTX. The Imp was a VERY nice car, don't get me wrong, but I'm very glad I decided on the SHO.

I have not raced one, but I know what they can do, its just a little slower than the SHO 5spd, stock for stock, the weight is what does slow it down, the ATX vs an impalla ss would be a very good race! Top speed I am not too sure, but I would imagine they are pretty close there too.

Car and Driver tested the 1989 and 1991 SHOs to 140 mph top speed. The Gen IIs may have been a mile or two faster due to the better aerodynamics, but not too much faster.

ATX cars have a 139 mph speed limiter in the EEC, I believe Ted B. discoverd this a couple of yrs ago.

FWIW Ford claimed 146 mph as flat out for an MTX gen2. Specific locations conditions make this vary a bunch, temp, tires, baro, car, etc.

Motor Trend took a mustang several years back and ran it 135 mph. Then tape'd up the hood/grille seam, took the wipers off, and picked up 3 mph. Aero is everything at those speeds.

I beat an Impala SS from stop light to stop light here in Monroe, MI... repeatedly.

The other driver was my roomate, driving his Dad's SS, and he couldn't believe that I pulled out ahead of him.

Those SS's seem really slow "out of the hole"... nothing like a Vette or anything.

My car is basically a stock 94 ATX.

That is my story, for whatever that is worth...

I'm surprised. I had a 95 9C1, basicly an impalla. 260HP and 340ft/lbs. 3.08 Posi. I could get out of the hole good, good enough to beat a stock 5.0 mustang. But I never did get the chance to race it against the SHO. It would be a damn close race. But, the Impalla's are just a tad slower then the 9C1's so I think a SHO would actally take an Impalla. A stock impalla claims 15.1 in the ¼, I've seen them between 14.9-15.5, so it really depends on the car, if it was built on a monday or friday, that kinda thing.

i have a motor trend magazine with a 94 ATX SHO vs. 94 Imapalla SS vs. supercharged boniville. They did like the SHO at all the impalla ss and the pontiac beat the sho 0-60 and threw the 1/4 mile. I don't have the exact data with me. I'll post it when i find it.

Greetings from Germany. I drive 17 miles to work everyday on the Autobahn! My 94 ATX has seen the 140 mark on my speedo a couple of times. I think it has a little more in it, but it does take some time to build the momentum to get to 140. Getting to 130 is not much of a problem unless I hit a long up-grade. All in all I keep the BMWs and Mercedes guessing!

I have that same issue and it's not to be taken seriously for 2 reasons.
(1) Like everyone says (even the mag's themselves), times will vary depending on driver, track condition, etc. That is an ATX they are testing and they claim it to be 0-60 in 7.7 seconds and the 1/4 in 15.8. Now, I don't want to get this debate going but the ATX guys claim their cars to be as fast as MTX cars. At this point, I believe that is mostly true, only because I have never driven an ATX and therefore to argue that point would be ignorant of me. So if it's true, then that 7.7 and 15.8 seems high. I couldn't get my MTX to go 0.60 in 7.7 if I tried! On the G-Tech, when I have a really, really poor launch, I'm hitting 7.1
That is with very worn Goodyears and poor track.
(2) More importantly, it's Motor Trend. One of the most biased magazines I've ever read. Going into that comparison thinking a Ford would beat a Chevy would be like thinking they will pick ANY car over a BMW. It won't happen.

I ran against a stock SS at Capitol Raceway back in '95 with my first (stock) ATX and beat it twice - quicker 60' time and about .5 sec in the 1/4.

I had a 96 and I beat a 96 impala ss at the street races by about a car length. I also had it up to 143 racing a mercedes on the freeway. Im not to sure how my car compares to an mtx. Ive heard its slower but I raced on on the freeway and it was pretty darn close. We werent beating each other.

it's anybodies guess really. Unless you have a GPS or a more accurate way of measuring speed than the stock speedo it's anybodies guess how fast you are really going. Ransom said his speedo is off 6-8 MPH at 120MPH.
So if your speedo says 132, you could be doing 125, or you could be doing 140.
Anyone who says they've done 148 MPH in a stock SHO is probably dreaming, ATX or MTX.

Well I have a GPS system in my car and my speedo is as accurate as I can read it. I will have to double check it because I usually do not look down at high speed. A stock SHO will definately hit 145, especially on a downhill grade. I travel frequently at high speed between the two small towns I live by. The car easily gets to 120-125, uphill or downhill. The extra 20 +/- mph does take a little longer. Starting at 80 mph at the top of a downhill part of my local highway my SHO's speedo will hit 140 mph in about a mile.

I would say that the everday usable speed of the SHO is 0-125mph, any speed after that usually takes to long, unless you are S/C.

Man do I want a S/C. Just don't have the time to mess with the tuning and problems right now.

Injections fine but I'd rather be BLOWN!!!

Do you think in a mile starting from 25 you could hit 120 in a MTX?
