91+ w 171K on it. NO mods all stock but I want some advice.

I plan on replacing the following; clutch, tob, pp, flywheel, rod bearings, intake man gasket set, waterpump, timing belt, full tune up, plugs, wires, all filters(fuel, air, cabin, oil), 02 sensors, flush radiator and cooling system, crank pos sensor, cam pos sensor, maf sensor, all new struts front/rear, flush tranny and put in drain plug, also been thinking about lower conrol arm bushings and A arm bushings. What else do you think I should do or do you think some of this is over ****. I just want to have a really good running SHO.

Any input is great!!!

I was also thinking about doing the valve lash adjustment but im not too confident on doing it myself. If I had someone who has done it befor help me then I would defffinetly do it!!

I can give you a hand with the valve lash, but i don't have the tools anymore. Where in CT are you?

PS - it's a good bet that you won't even have to adjust it. It's usually safe to not even bother getting the shim kit/tools, etc, and just 'verifying' that all the clearences are in spec. Of course, if you do find one thats out, it just adds another week until your car's back on the road.

Personally, I'd say drive it a while and just put the money where it needs it. The basic maintenance stuff is always good, and if there are obviously worn or underperforming parts then replacing those is good, too. Just replacing stuff to replace it doesn't seem worthwhile to me, and there's always a little added risk that something doesn't go back together quite right and causes problems (like Beth's stray electrical connector last year).

i def want to do the 60K. So if you could help with the valves that would be awsome. Im in Stratford. Also I kind of agree with dont fix whats not broke theory but at the same time CT winters suck and I dont want anything to break on me during the winter so I figured I could get it all out of the way now rather then later.

These cars have cabin air filters?
Not the Gen I or Gen II.

However, my '97 GL has a cabin filter, so I'd have to think that the Gen III SHO's also have them...

Add Front hub bearings to your list if they are still original. If you replace them before they catastrophically fail then you can re-use the hub. If you wait till they fail you need a hub and bearing.....

I found this out the hard way....twice... :bonk:
