To paint or not to paint?

Hey guys just bought a 90 SHO, currently doing the 60K and then on to the body. So, what does everyone think about painting the SHO insets on the rear bumper shroud, why or why not? Maybe we could see some pictures on here also.
I'll start with this: My uncle had a blue SHO for several years. After driving it daily for about 2 years with no trouble, he painted his emblems a contrasting white. Within days, cops were pulling him over all the time, and he had nothing but trouble. So...one for a no.

umm yeah that would be like them pulling you over for just getting your car detailed. that doesn't happen

Not for having them painted, I'm sure he was obviously doing something else wrong, it just made his car stand out more than usual. I had another friend who bought a saleen 351 and literally had cops pull him over and tell him they had no legit reason to pull them over, just wanted to look at the car. Anyway, I think it's pretty obvious that faster, brighter cars are eye magnets for cops.

Thats like saying red cars cause speeding tickets. SPEEDING RED CARS get more tickets... I don't see how painting the SHO letters caused him to get stopped. More to that story than he is willing to discuss.

Personally, I like to keep the SHO in stealth mode, so my vote is "no" for painting the "SHO" insert on the back bumper, or anywhere else on the car.

Painting the inserts CAN look decent, but usually they don't...and they seem to get shabby looking in no time.

If you want to be unique, fill the inserts in and paint over them. Make it even more stealth.

Always looks like "rice" to me.

Same when dudes chrome the "Cobra" on the Mustangs.

We get the idea, OK, you have a small ***** and need EVERYBODY to know your have a "COBRA".



Plus, you're going to have to explain WTF an SHO is to a lot more people. They won't understand and therefore YOU will need a "Cobra" to make yourself feel like you have big ***** too.

I filled in my SHO inserts and replaced it with the chrome "COBRA" Also I added 5.0 badges on both sides of it

IDK what your all complaining aboot... I think it looks good and adds a little bit to the car.. Especially with mine being a white car.. If i didnt have it painted it would just be a big white thing.. I don't mind explaing to people what S H O means either. The look on their face is awesome and the look gets better when i open to hood to show them.. I've gotten many compliments on it being painted.. The only time ive ever had a problem with it coming off is when i take it get washed.. If i had wash it, no problem.. other than that the power from their pressure washer just peels it right off.. I say go for it!

As for the cop thing.. It did get my step dad pulled over once a couple years ago when he was driving it... The cop actually just wanted to talk about and compliment on such a clean car, and ask a little bit about it.!

Exactly. Filling in the letters would help keep the SHO under the radar.

It already IS under the radar.. haha.. As if the sporty front bumber cover, SHO cladding on the side and 16" Sporty rims, dual exhaust and lowered look doest give it away.. Hum.. seems like you guys want a regular looking taurus, with a SHO motor in it..... Save yourself the effor and swap the motor in to a SLO and keep from ruining an otherwise perfectly good car..

Don't get me wrong, I'll never fill the letters. I was just bored and felt like defending Brian's position. Also, remember that his is a Gen 1, and from the factory the Gen 1 was more of a sleeper than the Gen 2 (15" basketweaves, turndown tips, no spoiler, etc...).

Very true, but there are still distinct differences between the two.. (SLO and SHO that is)
