It's just a reflection that comes by related to my aging cars.
Last summer I was going to work with my SHO and with it, I don't waste time in the right lane, I'm very often in the left lane. On the last red light before entering highway (on a boulevard that become highway after this light), I have a Kia Optima GDI in front of me (the one with 2 exhaust tips and a turbo on the motor). Don't know very well the model at that time, but the guy into it apparently know mine... When the light goes green, he "launched" his one into highway, surprised, I decided to follow just to see I was was able to follow. (Entering highway there is no risk with the security and law passing 0 to 120 km/h.)
I was able to follow him but I don't have hp to join and pass him. I was a little disappointed by my modded V8 this day (welded, saxectomy, Gen 4 SLO air filter, porterized surge tank and 3 trans coolers). It's appear that Optima sport option have a 2.0L with a turbo that have 274 hp stock. (!) Some searches after, I realized that many car now have easily that range of hp number when they haven't a V6 3.5L (almost all company offer a motor of that size : Mazda 6, Honda Accord, Toyota Camry (!!), Ford Fusion 2010-2012, etc.
More recently, I begun to think to replace my winter work horse (the SLO and unable to find another good low mileage one) and came to choose the Hyunday Sonata 2011-2013 which have some cool aspects : low fuel consummation L4 2.4L/2.0L turbo, cool design (round shaped like Gen 3 and interior is crazy too), very well equipped for the price, a lot sold making parts easy to find, Hyundai reliability/service/guaranty.
Searching a good one to buy, I find more and more with mention "new motor", "need motor" or "new garanty from Hyundai"... What the... My mother have one say me that they have a recall on the motor. In fact, isn't a small recall, the motors (2.4L and 2.0L turbo) can make hesitations and rattling noise, stall, stop working on highway and seize... Humm, remember me something related to a V8.

Except that the problem on Hyundai motor is on the short block, not the heads. Which is a lot more complicated to repair for the common people and Hyundai don't bother with that and just replace the motors. Hyundai guaranty their motor until 120k miles passing this, it's our problem if I understand correctly.
Well, I think I will repair my old rusted SLO and when I will/pass/be passed by a 2.0L turbo, I will look at it with a little smile keeping in mind he can have motor failure anytime, like the first SHO owners many years ago...
