I hate to hijack this thread but what about tires for 19 inch wheels? hankook does not make tires for the SHO in 19" & the GoodYears that came stock are the cheapest and lowest rated tire for this car.

I put these General G-Max tires on my 06 Mustang GT about 1000 mile ago.
I am VERY happy with them. They stick better than the TOYO T1R's in the dray and wet, that I had on previously. They are all season to boot. Owners have rated them very highly at tirerack.com. They are a fairly new tire so tirerack hasn't given them a number rating yet.
They also ride much better than the TOYO's. I kinda wish the Goodyear's would wear out on the SHO so I could change to these.
They don't come in the stock 255/45/19 that the SHO is, but they do make them in 245/45/19 or 255/40's.

General Tires are part of the Continental Tire Co Group. They are very good tires for the money.

Son had UHP on a GTO, and drove them thru 3 winters. Handled as good as stock tires, and rode better, plus got good mileage out of them.

I have 41K on what I believe are the original Michelin MXV4's - fronts are close to bald and rears aren't much better...I bought the car with 22K miles and I don't think they have ever been rotated. A set of 4 new ones is $1100 installed at the local Ford dealer. Tire rack has them for$1236. Note sure if I want to spend $1100 on the michelins are get some cheaper ones...

Just put on a set of Conti Extreme DWS tires and I am very happy. Took off the factory F1 Supercar's and the Conti's have much better wet traction and I've noticed very little difference otherwise. These tires ride better and so far are quiet and perform well. Only when pushing the car very hard do I notice a slight decrease in cornering.

It's early but I'd give these a 9 out of 10.

I think if they are paired and the worn ones are on the rear wheels, there is no problem. If ever there is a bit of spin to have, it will be in the front wheels. Do you have any arguments why AWD would require equally worn tires front and rear?
Thanks

Sorry....my notification didn't work? And I somehow missed this until now. It has to do with the revolutions per mile. As a tire wears, it's revolutions per mile will slowly increase. If the fronts are larger than the rears, then the drivetrain rotates slower for the front than the rear, leaving the transfer case to constantly slip a little causing premature wear. The SHO transfer case is a little different as it's not continuously engaged, but I still think it's a bad idea to have it constantly deal with slightly different speeds for the front and rear.

As an example, some of the early Dodge Caravans would grenade a transfer case with just a low tire! It caused just enough difference in drivetrain speed to overwhelm the xfer case.

So in a 20 " wheel what are the lightest rotating mass {Tires Only) that the Forum has come across? It could be just me but I swear my car turns faster and stops quicker with substantial rotational mass reduction by wheels, and of course tires. What does everyone else think?

I hope this helps guys. I am the Service Director for a Ford Store and what many people don't realize is that Ford dealers have VERY aggressive pricing on tires. Dealers are able to sell tires on the Around the Wheel program for as little as $5 over cost!! This is up to each dealer to decide. I sell tires at our store for $10 over cost plus Mount and balance and we give free rotations for a long as you own them just like the tire stores.

HTH,
An update on the General G-Max tires. They ride very well and have excellent traction, wet and dry. Ride and handling are excellent also!
HOWEVER< the sidewalls seem very thin and are easily punctured, so get the road hazard warranty!

My $.02

I have used the ContiExtreme Contact (Continential) since 2003 on various sports sedans (2003 & 2006 Lincoln LS V8) (2009 Acura TL SH-AWD) and current on my (2010 Performance Pkg SHO).

Oddly enough all of the listed cars listed above came with Michelin OE tires which slipped or wore out very fast. Once the Conti went on, no more slip, and they wore (with proper rotation every 5k - 7.5k mi) twice as long.

Since I live in the Mid-Atlantic states I always went with the All-Season variety. Never a problem with cornering, MUCH quieter ride.

Hope that helps.....cheers.
