Thumping noise behind Auto Climate Control Unit

Can anyone help me determine what is causing a thumping noise which appears to be coming from behind the Automatic climate control unit?
Has anyone had the same strange noise happen to them? I haven't tried to remove anything yet to find where the sound is originating from.
The thumping sound starts as soon as I turn the ignition on, and as I continue to start the car. The Automatic climate control system is off and it is still happening, so I don't know if its related to the Automatic climate controls.
Sometimes when I start the car and the climate control system is off the sound doesn't occur at all.
This sound is driving me out of my mind...a little help please!

Most likely the Blend Door Module...I do not envy you .

Your blend door is shot, so is mine.....prepare for chineese water torture of the SHO. You will have to remove the whole dash board away from the firewall to replace the module. I will try this next spring since it's winter here already, but if I am on the verge of going insane due to the clicking I may do it sooner. If you're not a patient person get ready to drop $600-700 in labor to replace it...besides the ~$50-60 in parts cost

Chinese water torture of the SHO? I think I can endure the excruciating pain of the Chinese torture chamber of the SHO. Its the labor cost which I think is going to be more painful if I decide to have someone else do it.

I wish I was as mechanically inclined as you guys, thanks for the information, I feel a little more optimistic.
I did temporarily stop the annoying clicking noise by removing the "Electronic climate control/Air Conditioning" fuse in my fuse box. I have a 95 SHO I think its the #17 "15amp" fuse in the fuse box. I thought it would disable the use of the Electronic climate control unit, on the contrary, all worked except the air conditioning. Fall is here so I won't be needing any AC. Is the procedure for replacing the blend door in the Taurus repair manual? If so I'm going to attempt it next summer.

Steve, do you have any kind of system or organizational tips on the best way to take the dash apart?

Would labeling hoses and wire connectors, for example, be a good idea for someone less mechanically inclined?

How about keeping track of the screws, nuts, bolts, etc.?

My biggest concern would be remembering how to put it all back together so that there are no pieces left over when I'm done. wink

I am in the middle of doing mine right now and I cannot get the dash out because the instrument cluster (speedo cable) has no slack. How do you disconnect the cable?

I used the Helms the first time. Did it step by step. Labeling wires and connectors is important. Ziplock bags with write-on labels also help to keep the screws organized.

Really, whatever system that you can devise that will keep the parts straight is probably a good one.
