This GD starter!!!

I can't win with this car sometimes.... ok.. starter was acting funny.. replaced the cylanoid.. now it does it again.. must be the coil because i just put new brushes in last year. Ok.. so I take the cylanoid back, and get an AZ starter as I need to drive to work in the morning. I get the new and not the referbished one..

Well it spins.. just dosent grab the flywheel... alkasjdf;lakjsdflaksdjfalsdkfj I wanna light it on fire.. I push started it again, and found my way home.. what a a buncha crap this is...



Anyone have this problem? With or without an AZ "Gold" starter....

And should I get my next one from Napa? I can't be d**kin around with this too long in the morning. I gotta be at work fairly early..

i bought mine from autozone, worked fine, no problems on mine, i would say try one more az starter, should be able to go in and switch no problem, after that id try napa,

just be thankful its an mtx, and park on hills til it gets straightened out, walking aint too hard,

Edit: Still groggy from all the weekend driving... I called in and said I'd be a little late.. going to take a trip 20 miles away and get another AZ starter... if this dosen't do it.. Napa should be open by then... I'll let ya know what happens... and get some pics of this POS.. lol Kinda sucks because it really is gold.. had some bling under the hood..



I've said it before and I'll say it again.. my SHO is like a woman.. always wants my hands all over it.. nothing is ever enough.. can't please her, blah blah blah lol

Yep I was right.. its like the teeth aren't big enough.. It was goin out far enough.. maybe this is something I should check... wonder if AZ still has my old one from last night.

See what 2 seconds of starting did? And yes I have a new (11k miles) flywheel, and it had a new ford ring gear on it too....



So now what... is this gear too small? wtf is goin on here... lol

WTF is a CYLANOID???

Do you mean SOLENOID?

Re-man starters are a crap-shoot, and I really don't think any one brand is better/worse than others. The problem is the post-rebuild testing doesn't usually include things like the effects of heat saturation, fluid contamination (I've never seen a V6 SHO starter that didn't have oil on it), thousands of starts, etc.

Brand new starters are a much better choice and not that expensive. WAI makes 100% brand new starters that are highly reliable. I've probably installed 50-60 of their starters in the past 5 years without a single failure thus far.

Different size gear maybe? I know mine was after the 5/92 builds...

They don't have new ones of those tho.. just reman... lifetime.. so I guess I'll change em every few months from here on out..

If you keep the oil out of/off of the starter you should not have to change it out for a long time to come.... relocate your oil filter, it will help.

There are several starters for the V6 SHO, Gen 1 starters do not have the Solenoid on the starter, Gen 2 starters do and many early ones have a different size pinion.
