So it's been close to 10 years since I have purchased a new car. The last new car I bought was a 2005 Dodge Grand Caravan back in 04. Definitely nothing to brag about but it has been a great family vehicle to date. Anyways I just got a company allowance and need to purchase something more up to date than my 91 and 95 SHOs. The new 13 SHO is in the top 5 of cars I would consider. Through work I am apart of the Ford X plan which gets certain discounts. Also I can get a $3,500 incentive from Ford. Can anyone give me advice on other incentives or cash back options available? Also other words of wisdom when buying a new car?

A couple things that I will be trying to work into the deal is a spare tire and all season tires as I have my heart set on the Performance Package. I also really like the 13 rims. I'm on the fence with the 402A option but would like navigation and sunroof. What are features you really like or thought you would like but don't really use?

Being I live in the rust belt I'm concerned with preventing rust. Does the rust coating the dealer put on help or is a waste of money? I've bought cans of undercoating before and done it myself however there there are areas typically you just can't reach. Thoughts?

So hypothetical if the X plan knocks off $3,500 of the price I could do better by haggling? Interesting maybe i need to work on my negotiating skills!!!

We LOVE our EB Flex... While I have 2 G8 GT's, which are KICK ASS.. my second choice in that price range would be a SHO, especially if I was where it snowed. My G8's never see snow.. One is in FL for Oct-May... and other is in IA for May- Oct. Would be SCARY in snow... Buy that SHO... or a used or new Lincoln EB- MKS which is just a plush SHO without PP. They are priced at or below SHO cost for every year, including New... PP is nice, but there are NON -PP SHO's that are almost as fast as the fastest tuned SHO's , and still faster than most. One non-PP 2010 Canadian SHO is at 12.2...in 1/4 mi.

I just purchased a 2013 Ruby Red SHO with performance package. I bartered and got snow tires and mags included in my offer. So far I just love my new SHO. This is my third SHO I had a 1992 and a 1997. This one seems so nice and easy to drive. I love to see the look on others faces when they want to go and I turn off the traction control and put the transmission in S and keep up to them or pass them it is sure a rush. I had tuned my 1992 but not sure I will with my 2013. Loveing it more as I drive it more, it has 1257.8 klms on it now.

My son was looking at an escape and found he could do better if he forgot about the x plan pricing. But check both and compare to your best price

In addition to the $3500, you can also get $750 cash back if you go to Ford's website and ask for a brochure to be mailed to you.

Your choices on colors and options might be limited since 2013s are not being produced anymore as 2014s are now coming. Special pricing is only on 2013s right now.

When I bought mime there wa a ford rebate of $5500.00 cdn and a $1000.00 for being a Costco member and I got $5500 for a trade so I think I did good $12,000.00 off list and I added my winter mags/tires so it was super deal.

When I purchased mine, I was able to get the best discount with the AAA membership. The dealer, at that time, told me that AAA beat the Costco and X-Plan.
I didn't put any rust proofing on mine and 2 1/2 years later there are no signs of surface rust underneath. I wouldn't get the rust proofing.
I purchased the Ford 75k mile bumper-bumper extended warranty. I took the quote from Ford Warranty Direct and the dealer matched it. Though, at this point, I'm not sure I'll get my money back on repairs for that insurance policy. Doesn't see like there are any high dollar common repairs here on the forum(s).
I went with the 402A as I knew I'd never 'track' the car. The goodies that 402A bring along are well worth it, IMHO.

I probably shouldn't have but I did. My 13 SEL was in for a quick trim inspection....left passenger door trim panel....needs to be R/R but ordered first.. Anyhoo, while I was waiting, I asked if they had any 14's in...Negative. I asked if they had a SHO....Affirmative on that one but it was the General Manager's DEMO and was off the lot temporarily. The sales rep and I went over the 2014 Color swatches......FYI The dark side that looks like a dark blue on the Ford Build/Price website is more Black.....Call it a extremely dark grey. Still no 14's but I did find a 2014 Escape with the Sunset Metallic, nothing overly fancy looks only about a shade or two darker than the Ruby Red Metallic.

Fast forward approximately 15-20 minutes later the GM returns, sales rep asks if we can take it for a ride. He says yes. Remember the Angel/Devil that was on your shoulder during times of conflict.........The angel was NOWHERE to be found.......sit down, buckle up and head out. I knew the basic Taurus driving so not a total surprise......Sales rep said take a curved course, pretty windy hilly road good test of the handling, and suspension. I got a mild squeal on the tires during the cornering and was also able to set the sport mode of the Transmission and got the hills and acceleration from the Kickdown.....in sport mode I was in 5th and acceleration felt week at least from a SHO standpoint....next uphill he told me to kick down to 4th or even 3rd and that was it I felt the difference. A/C on, uphill and I felt the twin turbos come alive.. continued past a semi residential area and filtered back to I-376 for highway acceleration. Came on the onramp, no traffic, A/C OFF and Wide Open Throttle from about 5 MPH acceleration was sweet and definitely no slouch this time. Also got to test the Adaptive Cruise Control...although I like to manually keep my distance and keep my driving skills I can see where the A.C.C can have its good points. Returned to the dealer and found out the status of my SEL...needed the black trim panel for the rear passengers door. Awaiting parts, dealer will call when parts in stock.

Test ride gave me a new impression of the SHO, still not sure about the $38K but it was nice.....Definitely not the black, but the SHO rose petal wheels are starting to grow on me. Wind got taken out of my sails when I found out the Dark Side was closer to black then Blue.........Sterling Grey anyone?

It was nice but I would try to find a NON PP I know I am the rare bird but I want the full size spare tire and want a decent comfortable ride on city streets.

If 2013 I would be looking for Sterling Grey or Deep Impact blue with the Charcoal/Myan grey seats. 402A Moonroof/NAV and Multi Countour seats NO Perf Pkg.

MSRP $42,000 minus USAA

2014 Same specs $43,600 minus USAA

I suggested YOU get first dibs on the demo the dealership GM will be the fisrt guy in town driving the '14. Should be able to get a deal - especially since they've seen you around before.

Best wishes!

So I bought a new SHO last week. It's the 2013 Phantom White, 402A, PP, Nav, Multi-Contour Seats, and Moonroof. Love it!

Anyone know what size spare tire I need to get? I was planning on trying to find a newer Taurus SEL at the junk yard and grab all the stuff from it, but not sure if it will fit.
