I can't really tell with the intermediate shaft. Can you get a shot that's perpendicular at the seal to shaft interface?

And yes, your shifter boss is hosed. That'll need to be welded.

would the engine mounts cause the boss to break?

With the excessive movement of the engine it would cause the boss to break. Maybe some hard shifting during WOT had a part in it too.

It doesn't neccessarily "need" to be welded....I had the same problem, and I wound up crawling under mine, drilling a 3/4 inch deep hole in the existing hole (was afraid to go further), tapping it and running a bolt in there. Works just fine until I can get something that'll reinforce it.

The shaft is pulled out because your carrier bearing has separated from the rubber that isolates the bearing from the bracket. The rubber bonds everything together and holds the shaft latterally. It may eventually slide out far enough to become unsplined. Start looking for a used one that is still good, as there is no replacement. Or figure out how to replace the rubber with urethane and remould it.

The intermediate shaft looks fine. Here's an example of a GREAT solution to the trans boss mount...

To adress the original concern of the thread, check your motor mounts and the accessory bracket that holds your A/C compressor/altenator...make sure they're all in good shape. I've broken two, and both were the result of craptastic motor mounts. A length of chain has taken care of that problem quite nicely, I must say. After you get the motor wrenched down so that it stops moving, then you can either create something to use some of the other existing holes in the trans, or do the fix that I mentioned about 4 posts up.

I think that plastic thing is there so that when the factory jams the intermediate shaft into the trans during assembly, it doesnt go too far and damage the gears. It's in the correct spot from what I can see.

mine looks just like that as well, but doesnt leak and is actually seated firmly into the splines pretty far in so i ver worried about it, just figured it was the way it was supposed to be. it was that way on my old sho as well.
