I've finally finished! Searching that is...for 2-3 hours on how this system works. All after it has made me late to many places and go through a gallon of coolant a day. madflame

Although, I still have some questions before I go out and make a problem worse or magically make another appear.

IF my radiator cap is bad, I understand this will cause more than the recommended pressure to build up in the cooling system, right?

So, will this explain why the end tanks are starting to leak more than I can **** in a week, but all in one day? They will NOT leak when the car is warming, nor when low on fluid...but that too results in heat.

I also have split/cracked a hose, a red one, that seems to be connected straight to the back drivers side of the block. It's about 2.5 inches long and connects to a metal heater hose feeding up to another black hose going somewhere towards the firewall. It seems to hiss and spray coolant on my cats which smokes the car up to where I have to use my windshield wipers to see out. I assume the pressure has made this hose give a little. Hopefully I can get away with tightening it up some more.

Sorry for the long post. I was just wondering if the cap can build more than enough pressure up in the system to make my radiator and hoses leak.

TIA thumb

The cap is supposed to release pressure at 16 psi. If it doesn't, you can overpressurize the system.

Just replace it, it's not very expensive.
