So I was driving around Tampa yesterday and my check oil light came on. I was like "oh @#$*, thats not good" I chech my fluid level and it is two quarts low!! It was full less than 2 months ago. My car does not leak, does not smoke and I even checked the coolant, looking for traces of oil indicating a blown head gasket. I came up with NOTHING!! I cannot figure out where two quarts of oil went in less than two months. shrug Any Ideas would be most appriciated! thumb

It's actually fairly normal! These cars will eat about 1 qt. every 3000 on average (sometimes more or less). Mine takes about 2, and I have a bad front crank seal. You might want to check that. Just look to the passenger side of the oil pan. If you have been driving harder lately, that might also cause it. My 89's oil consumption varied a bit depending on how I drove it.

My tired old 89 with 215K on it uses a quart every 1K miles.

Haven't checked your oil in two months? SHAME ON YOU! Check it every couple of fillups at least.

I make a habit of checking my oil every few days. I don't usually lose any unless I make repeated high speed runs, but I still like to be on top of it. You're probably losing a little to blowby; the amount you lose is dependent to some extent on how hard you drive the car as well. If you drive harder, you'll create more high pressure situations in the crankcase, and you'll get more blowby. You also might have a leaky rear main seal and/or oil pan gasket. After my 60k I found that I was still losing a little oil, although the drip I had from my front main seal had stopped. I was a little confused until I realized that it was probably coming from the rear main seal and pan gasket (I later found I was correct and had both seals replaced with my clutch). These two seals can leak, but you may never see it as it can get caught up on the subframe, it can adhere to the pan due to dirt and road grime and may appear as gunk rather than leaking oil, and your rear main can get all caught up in the transmission bellhousing.
