The broken Y-Pipe blues...any ideas?

i think trueSHO is going to hook me up with an old stock one that he had laying around and hopefully i can get it welded on for 200 or so.

I really dont even care about performance anymore... my car has like 290000 miles on it and runs like a one legged wombat, so i dont think a stock y pipe will be a big drag on it. As long as i can quiet it down a bit so it will get me around pleasurably for a while more, i will be happy.

I think i will replace my O2 sensors while im at it... any recomendations for some cheap ones that dont suck?

do you think they will be able to fit the old stock y pipe to the aftermarket exhaust OK?

If it's a Y-pipe, NOTHING will need to be welded. It's bolt on. Matt, known on the Forum here as "Dr Evil" lives in Sparks. PM him and ask him for help before you get bent over by a shop that will take advantage of you.

Must be the same idiot who did it to my car before I got it I really wish I took a picture of that after the pipe cracked in two.

that would be mister Z's exhaust is sparks, Nevada - they did a shittty job on this whole thing...i dont know how much the guy i got it from paid for it - but it was too much.


im thinking of going ahead and try doing the install of the new y pipe myself anyway though... i will have to cut the exhaust where the new y pipe will meet it and then i will put the y pipe inside of the old pipe becasue it is going to be smaller, and try a muffler clamp to clamp it down and hold it together, then im going to borrow a freinds mig welder and try to weld it up myself.

Go over there and kick him in the package. If he doesn't know what he's doing, he shouldn't be business doing exhaust systems.

I would weld on a new ****** to the exhaust and make it correct again. You will need a new doughnut and the spring bolts, but it will be correct.

Yes the O2 bungs are in the Y-pipe, precat.

I would weld on a new ****** to the exhaust and make it correct again. You will new a doughnut and the spring bolts, but it will be correct.

im also worried that the flex pipe may be no good, or worse yet, it may be placed right where I will need to cut to fit the new y pipe in

A new flex pipe will work as long as it has a coupling that will match up the the MTX Y-pipe so you can unbolt it. Maybe someone can chime in here with a part number for you on one that will work with a 2.5" pipe. Since you have a 2.5" pipe now, if you going to order a new Y-pipe, I would get either the SHO Shop's or a Performance Plus, which Doug from Ford Performance Specialists now sells. F.P.S. is a Forum sponser and has a banner link to there site from the forum. These are both 2.5" mandrell bent Y-pipes.

I used Bosch O2 sensors I purchased at autozone part number 13942.

Motorcraft E97F-9F472-CA or the Bosch equivilent, I think it's a 258?
Don't get a "one size fits all" O2 sensor. Some parts store sell you those saying they will work for the application. They do, but not all that well.

The Bosche sensors run just about $40 each.
