Just had my engine rebuilt, completely, everything except the block is brand new. The guy who rebuilt it has given me a 12k mile 12 month warranty with it, but insists i use Texaco oil 10w30. Any thoughts on this? I know 10w30 is listed as ok in the manual, I just dont know about the Texaco. I bet its better than Pennzoil!! lol In any case to avoid voiding the warranty I have no choice, but he didnt take to my suggesting the 5w30 Castrol GTX....

The Texaco, Pennzoil, and Castrol oils are all adequate oils for the job with none of them having a particular benefit. They are all fine oils for lubricating your engine as long as you maintain the prescribed oil change interval.

If that's what he requires for his warranty, do it and smile.

When I had my rod bearings done I saw what Pennzoil leaves behind in your oil pan jpshakeh ...definitely cleaned that crap up.

The previous owner used Pennzoil and I'll be sure to change my oil from now on with Castrol GTX 10w-30.

Do a search, you might find the thread with pics of heads from SHO's that have used Pennzoil, Castrol GTX and Mobil-1. Let's just say the cleanest heads came from the SHO that ran with Castrol GTX.

I bought a 76 Jeep for a man who swore that if a vehicle smokes switch to texaco and it will stop!!! (Doesn't help my 76 F100 Just change the filter the oil burns to fast to wear out :D )That jeep had only had texaco in it and the heads looked great at 140k the body rusted away, but the moter was great. Never heard any complaints about Texaco. There has been much proof for Mobile 1 and Castrol.
Run Texaco for the warrenty then use you choice.

How do the following compare to Castrol GTX. I have used Mobil 1 5W30 for the last 148,000 km. The following pics were taken at the 60K service performed at 168,000 km.

There's a lot of bs spread through this forum about the effects of various oils.

Go to a forum such as www.bobistheoilguy.com and see what people who have real knowledge of lubricants think about various lubricants.

I found that the preconceptions that many here have about certain oil brands are simply kaka.

I have seen the photos that are often referred to. However, they are not supported with empirical data to support the conclusions reach. Those with scientific or technical disciplines should know better that to reach assumptions that are not completely supportable.
