ok when tearing down my fornt end to start this project(lower 60k) I lined up teh white mark on teh dampener with 0* mark on the lower timing cover. and then proceded to remove teh belt I have now noticed that the cam markes are not lined up with the marks on teh steel rear timing cover. and between reding here and the stupid chiltons manual I am using I wanted to know wether I got it in TDC or not. and if not how to I find it again to reinstall teh timing belt. when I had the belt at 0 on the lower cover the cam marks were facing down toward teh ground instead of at 12 oclock. I would aprecciate some help. my onlt other recorse I guess would be to pull the first rear plug and drop a long extension down into teh engine and try to find it that way.

when you have it all apart you will see a timing dot on the crank pulley and one on both cam gears the dot on the crank pulley should line up with a dot on the oil pump it should be about 5 o'clock on the pump then your cam timing dots should line up with two lines on the metal shield behind the gears at 12 o'clock then put your new belt on and make sure that it is tight on the top and the right side and that most or all slack is on the left side and then release the tensioner and tighten it and then thumb you are done hope this helps beer beer beer beer

If the cam gear index marks are at 6 o'clock while the crank is at TDC, rotate the crank another complete revolution. This will point the cam index marks at 12 o'clock.

The crank requires two revolutions to every one that the camshafts make.

If the belt is already off, just put everything (by hand) to the appropriate marks (timing gear dimple at 5 o'clock, dampener at TDC, both cams at 12 o'clock) and reinstall the belt.

Sdpatt has posted excellent pictures of what to look for.
