I'll get you pictures on lunch but pretty much what you want to do is take the coolant line running to the top of the plate resting against the IAB (the horizontal cylinder) and run the head connection to that tube to the head connection of the tube that connects to the bottom of the throttle body. Pulling off the throttle body itself helps but it COULD be done without it. I also took the time to grind down the now useless tubes on the IAB as well as the throttle body.

I have done mine and it is as simple as Pro*banshee has explained it. This is not something I would recommend if you live in an area that gets very cold in the winter. If you do the TB bypass I would recommend doing it for the summer months only.

This reroutes the coolant so it does not flow through the TB so it cools the air charge. Cooler air is denser, so more getup and go. After doing this, my whole intake; snakes, crossovers stays cool while the engine is running; before I could not put my hand anywhere on the intake for more than a second or 2 due to the heat.

Hey Ken, we had a mild winter here and it hovered around zero for a few weeks and nothing iced up. The only time I had a problem was when it dipped into the negatives with windchill. The throttle iced open at 2k and I got out and hit it a little bit. It came unstuck and as soon as I got home I loaded up the throttle plate area with WD-40 and haven't had a problem since.

I mentioned the temperature simply because I noticed he's in Washington State and the temperature can vary greatly in that area during the winter.

I had no problems this winter either and it was in the 10's and 20's here for a few weeks at a time. I drove my SHO daily.

It got down to about -5 w/ windchill (1-2) for a few days straight here and I didn't have any problems. I've had the TB bypass for a few years now.

How big of difference does it actually make power wise? Is it really noticeable?

My SHO runs a little bit hotter than I would like (according the the temp gauge), how much cooling efficiency would I lose by doing this?

Thanks in advance.

I had searched this topic but somehow didn't find that thread. The pictures definitely help! I'll be able to try it out tonight, I'm just waiting on my valve gasket RTV to set ;)

so basically when the bypass is done, there should be the 2 small ******* below the TB that are left blank...correct?

Your engine will be cooler, not hotter after this is done.

Cold dry temps are not the reason they have coolant flow thru the TB & IAB block. Its when it warms up & stuff condensates & then goes below freezing when you could have iceing! TB plate can stick-maybe at WOT!

oh lord.

Look. The RADIATOR is there to radiate head into the air. The Throttle body is there to control the amount of air going into the engine. The throttle body is not meant to absorb heat from the engine. Jeez.

That's like saying you put your hand on a hot oven to absorb the heat from the burner element. You just go ahead and do that if you think it's a good idea.

The only reason the coolant goes through the TB is for when, say, you're in the Yukon in february. Or Alaska. And it gets really, really, really, cold, and your TB might freeze up.

Chances are about 98% that if you live in the lower 48, it's really not an issue. Maybe the UP folks might have to worry about it but that'd be about it. So seriously, stop freaking out about the engine getting hot. Please believe me (if nobody else), the engine really will like it much more if you delete that coolant line.
