Nope...

I was driving to work this morning and noticed my low fuel light was on. The guage read just below 1/4 tank...

That's weird...I just filled up on Friday...only 178 on the trip meter...what the heck...was my tank siphoned in the night?!?

Then, about 2 minutes later the guage was reading EMPTY. Oh heck...I'm leaking fuel at an alarming rate...funny...I think I would be smelling it...better pull over and sniff around abit.

Na Da. No smell of fuel around the car....so my gas guage is messed up? Just to be sure, I filled it up...7 gallons. Confirmed...gas guage is messed up.

What happened? And do I need to drop the tank(or cut a hole in the floor)?

Maybe it was the super wet weather we've had? Maybe it will fix itself when it dries out?

It sound like a bad sender to me. I would check any connctors between the gage and the tank for a poor connection before I dropped it though.

do you know the hole-in-the-seat technique? If you don't, head over to the SHO Phoenix Project website (google it, I can't remember what it is) and they'll tell you. No, you don't actually cut a hole in your seat. You take that out first, silly! :bonk:

Anyway, that gets you access to the top of the gas tank, and you don't ever have to drop it or anything. I would check for a float that developed a leak and got filled with gas (thus making it not bouyant).

yeah, what he said, and be sure you measure 21" and 30 " over from the PASSENGERS side of the door frame.

lol yeah, and dremel > sawzall. Don't use a sawzall. There are fuel lines right under there, and they're kinda sensitive to being cut!

A dremel with a regular cutoff wheel works beautifully for this. It's not big enough to contact the fuel line, even if you try.

Not to hijack, but my gauge does just the opposite, it reads full most of the time. It might fluctuate some, but usually it says full.:nut:

that means either a bad fuel anti-slosh module (I think there's a couple on ebay right now), or the sender is stuck up. The solution is the same... replace the sender unit.
