If you have an 89/90 SHO, then you know that the center reflecter is blank.

I cut the housing open and added LEDs to it. YOu can use a regular bulb if you prefer.

I used a 2 stage LED that blinks with the flasher and stays lit for the park lamps.

Merely tap into the wires from your existing bulb.

That is very innovative...Can you speculate how much or what it would take to make an LED illuminated tail lamp for the Gen II? Similar to the new(er) Caddy Deville's?

Very cool indeed! I was lucky when I replaced my red/amber covers with all red ones. All I had to do was make a template and cut a new hole for the bulb. :p

Here's the problems I ran into:

originally I wanted to replace all the bulbs with LEDS mimicing the Cadilac lights but the LEDS won't load the flasher up enough sending it into fast mode.

The fix: There is a special flaser designed for just that problem. Finding one is proving elusive however. I see large semi tractors with LEDS all the time so I think I will check out some large truck shops.

Problem 2:
The "bulb out" light comes on when I disconnect the bulbs and add the LEDS.

I have no solution to this problem (pulling the bulb out of the dash is NOT a solution)

That is why I have only added it as a parking lamp. I have a dual stage LED that flash and brakes in concert with my original bulb.

The only solution I can think of to solve both problems is to leave a bulb in the circut and complete the tail-lights in LEDS. So far, I have 3/4 of the entire red portion of the tail-light covered in LEDS and they are very bright.

I can see no difference in the gen2 or the gen1 lights in the way it would be executed.

Cutting up of the back of the tail-lights and gluing hte LEDS to the back is all that is required.

Right now I have 4 3157 LED wedge style bulbs. The way I solved the hyper blinker was I bought two 1157 sockets and wired in parallel with the existing socket. This provided the necessary resistance to allow the LED's to work as they should.

just to let you know... some 89/90s already have the hole for the socket there it's just capped by a rubber plug. i just swapped some of those out of an 89 parts car and wired them in with the same plug as the other tail light. looks good and does everything the otherone did. Just another option.. it would appear that these lights were randomly put into the earlyer cars because the car i pulled them out of was built 3/89 wich is the same month as my other 89 wich didn't have those kind.

Steevil, can't you check the resistance at the bulbs and replace them with a like sized in-line resistor instead of leaving the bulb in?

I was just thinking about doing this. I would be really interested to find out what to do about the blinker problem.
