I was told that once upon a time, someone knew about soldering in a resistor or something in-line with the LED bulbs out there, to keep the Lamp Out light from coming on (and the corresponding rapid-flash on the turn signals).

Anyone know how? Anyone know what I'm talking about? :)

Thanks!

95 ATX, 3157R equiv. LED Bulbs from Autozone.

Thank you, sir!

Hmmm, now, dumb question... go with the red ones I already have, or the white 20-LED ones they have... :)

I would go with the ones you already have. I may be wrong but i would be afraid with the white ones the tails my end up looking pinkish but i guess the stockers are white lite so its up to you how bright you want the tails.

FYI, I got in everything I got from superbrightleds...

Their white 20-LED 3157's SUCK in comparison to the red 12 LED 3157's I got from Autozone as far as brightness. I also got white 3156's from SBL, for the backup lights, and as far as illumination, they also SUCK (though they look cool). I have the 3157 ambers for the front turns as well, along with 6 resistors. Bear with me, but where the **** do I tap those in? There were no instructions at all. There's a black wire, brown wire, and a striped on the driver's side bulbs. I assume the striped is brake on power, black ground, and brown constant running lights power? Yes yes, I have an EVTM, but I suck at wiring.

Oh, and Bruce, what you thought may have been the lamp out module under the column was something labeled "SHUNT - DO NOT DROP", and had "ABS" molded into the case. :)

To be honest, Fred...I think yoyu would have to go to a specialty company to get really good LEDs...the ones you get at radio shack and such are of lesser quality...

Marcel (ishodu) has an industrial lead on some LEDs that I think would be a better source..

I think Fred is talking about stock socket LED's already mounted/soldered and ready for 12V DC power, the circular type.

Now these individuals/seprates are the other type:

Led

And my LED project continues... evil_gri

BTW Fred go with the resistor above to get rid of the rapid flash, thats how I solved my "Lamp Out" problem with these "G35 Tail Lamps" I started on.

as long as we are on the subject of LEDs, I found a company that looks like they make some really quality stuff, the leds that you buy from autozone and stuff are very direct and not much of a projecting angle of light. The only problem is that you must buy in bulk, and i think you need to be a company of some sort. LED tronics

The resistor you show is EXACTLY what I have, down to the blue clips, etc.

I just gotta figure out where to tap it into. :)

Damn!! I wish I had read farther down this post before buying LED's from them! lol oh well. Fred, here is what it says on the website:

"Using includes splice taps, connect one wire to ground and the other wire to the turn/brake wire. You do not have to cut your car's wires. Squeeze splice taps with pliers. One Load Resistor required for each turn signal bulb. No instructions are include with these kits."

I bought the same in-line resistors from JamStrait and all I can say is that on my '93 they work like crap. Also the amber LED bulbs I got for the front turns suck. Won't buy from them again. squint

I'm trying a different approach, but it won't be done for a while. I'll post pics when the time is right.

Good Luck Fred!

Later!

FYI...

I put the 3157 Ambers (LED) in the front turn signal last night...

They would only work when the running lights / headlights were off. When those were on, the bulb would not blink, which seems to indicate that unlike the ones I got for the taillamps, they're not a 2-stage bulb setup.

So, in short, this whole LED thing ISN'T going the way I'd hoped. :)

Did you splice the resistor in the front turn signals? It sounds like its doing what my friends z34 did. His wouldnt blink so we bought a different high power relay and then it blinked noramlly. We got it at autozone, im sure if you go in there and ask one of the guys in there for the relay for led's they should know which one.

Paul, at $49 EACH LED 3157 Bulb, that's a BIG jump in price over the other ones...

~$6 each online, & $17 ea at Autozone.

They still mention having to replace the thermal flasher with an electronic one. Would that be a better way to go? I noticed the fuse panel doesn't have an actual socket connector for a traditional flasher.
