my brother took my SHO out last night and left one of the lights on all night. this morning, had to boost it up but the the rpm's weren't moving. everything else is fine, speedometer, temp gauge, fuel guage. looked at it and i see that the tachometer is stuck underneath this little black needle. is there a way i could fix it without having to do alot of work, for instance, removing the dash? its on a 91

Maybe while your brother was driving it he spun the tachometer all the way around and it just froze there at about 15,000 RPM's :)

You are going to love the solution to this problem:

Thinking you have to take the whole dash apart now arent you? Well you dont. This forum has just saved you a days worth of work and lots of swearing. Go out and start the car....let it warm up to normal operating temperature. Now go for a ride. Take the car to redline (7000 rpms in 1st or 2nd). The tach will spring back down from the pin counterclockwise as it resets.

Now for future reference: dont let brother take the car out for a ride. Here is what he did: He either drove it like a goofball, or more than likely got the front car mat stuck under the gas pedal and in a panic he pushed the clutch and it revved to 8000 or more rpms. He then cut the ignition (smart) and the tach pegged on the other side of the pin.

Actually this has happened to me a couple of times. It happens when you try and jump start the vehicle without making sure the key is in the off position when connecting the jumper cables.Do as F-22 Raptor suggested and all is fixed.

if it wasn't for this forum, my SHO would've been long sold, problem solved easily, needle went right back to its spot. i'll keep that advice about not letting my brother take the car :thumb: this forum is truly the best forum foSHO, thanks for the help.

You can also take a wire and stick it though the fuel odometer reset button, and grabbed the needle and pull.. but the alternate solution mentioned above is "funner" :)
