I saw a post somewhere but can’t seem to find it now. Looking at installing a tablet and Bluetooth OBD2 adapter. What are your suggestions on which app and adapter to use? I’m buying a cheap-ish tablet to only use in the car. Any suggestions or alternate ideas would be appreciated.

BT OBD2 plug is like $13 on amazon, and Torque app on google store is $5, i bought a cheap Fire Tablet from amazon while they were on sale for $50.

I used to really like Dash Command but ever since Autometer bought it and took it from a free program to a $100 program they stopped updating the free program and it's pretty buggy with newer operating systems.

As Joseph mentioned above, Torque PRO is great and very customizable for cheap.

Depending on how much you want to modify things later, you might want to go for a PC and Forscan. They have an Android version too, but I don't think it can modify as-built data.

If you're just scanning pids and making gauges, stick with Torque

to confirm, the Android version is just for datalogging no changes.

Happen to have a pic of it mounted? Trying to get ideas for that as well.

This is the mount I’m looking at.

Only thing I've seen on the forum are people using the CD slot holder

Dash is pretty flat. I just have a windsheild mount, mounted low that the tablet sits on the dash on the far left against the pillar. Dosnt vibrate at all.

Another happy OBDLink user. I bought the LX version which can access quite a bit. If I were to do it again I'd go with the MX, MX+ for the ability to access all the data lines with the right software.
I'm curious which software is the best, I'd played with free Forscan for a bit, but there was an update that ruined it for me. I have Ford IDS at work, but it's nice to have something available all the time.

My tablet setup, using two Panavise phone mounts above the head unit, a sheet of Lexan, and 4 angle brackets. I have a similar setup in my GTP as well.

TabletMount Lexan
I suppose I could have removed the protective film from the lexan. But I never see it with the tablet mounted over it.

TabletMount Panavise
I used flat USB cables to sneak through a gap in the dash trim.

Tablet HomeScreen
The UI is a program I've been working on for a very long time.

Tablet OBD Gauges

Tablet OBD 1 Tablet OBD 2
Lot's of OBD data. Using an OBD Link MX BlueTooth adapter.

Tablet FORScan
Yay FORScan

TabletMount GloveBox
USB hub in glove box. The hub is also a USB sound card, and audio runs to an adapter in the center console.

Is it just tucked into the speaker grill? I like that set-up

Under the speaker grille are two bolts. The Panavise mounts are attached there.
They are part # 75107-513
I did bend mine a little, to get the tablet at the angle I wanted.

TabletMount Panavise 2

TabletMount Panavise 1

One USB cable for power snakes down the left side of head unit, to a fuse tap near the driver's feet.
The other USB cable for the hub snakes down the right side of the head unit to the glove box.
There's a USB GPS puck on the dash near the passenger A-pillar, which also plugs into the hub.

I've been installing mini-ITX PCs and tablets in my cars for 15 years. I used to use a 200w DC-DC power supply and a quad-core AMD system in my GTP long ago, before tablets were a thing. I just added this tablet to my SHO last week, so the minor details haven't been cleaned up yet.

Police and the dealership have never even questioned it.

It's easy to remove the tablet. Just unplug and slide it up. But I just leave it in my car.

I really like that setup. I had planned to do much the same, but I want to fiberglass it and upholster or paint it so that it looks marginally like it might have come with it. I've also considered using a large phone instead of a tablet so that it's not as obtrusive.

I’m looking at the mounts, which panavice mounts did you use? I don’t see any that look similar to why you’re using there.

Here's my setup

It's hardwired in and uses a combo of Rokform and Proclip mounts. Galaxy Tab A6. I can take it out of direct sunlight pretty easily if needed, so its a bit less conspicuous.

Thank you! This is the post I was looking for earlier. For now I have mine mounted on the dash, just above where yours is, but I like your placement a lot better.
