It's WAY to complicated for that.........

First there is no "setups" to just "buy", what do you have to spend? What kind of setup do you want. Are you into sound quality or SPL ? (sound pressure level, you know bass)

Alpine has some good units, there lower ones are not very good at all......

I GURANTEE you'll get posts about people and what they like, that has nothing to do with it's value to price ratio, which is highly obscured in 99% of the car audio industry.

Name a price you'd like to spend on
Head unit
Speaker Amp
Speakers (I recommend just front, unless you feel the need to entertain the passengers, there is no need for rear)
Sub amp
Sub
wiring

are you opposed to building your own fiberglass speaker enclosures, your own sub box? There really isn't any boxes you can buy that are worth the time of day......

A few things to know, before you get all into this..... If you want to be LOUD, you'll be going with one sub in a large ported box, two subs BARELY increases the SPL at all....... It's ALL about the box.

How much it costed was a few grand, but who cares how much.
If you want good sound quality, you got to pay for it.

I'll stick with my first inclinations.... Prices Prices Prices.... You name them I name choices that reflect their worth in money.

JL has good amps that where designed by another man, a rather legend in car audio..... Their subwoofers while fairly good, are not usually the best for the money. While their normal stuff is still good, their W7 is a flaming joke, the price on it for what it does, sad. I wouldn't bother with JL componet speakers (I do not recommend 6x9's they suck, or any other all in one, componet is the only way).

Optima batteries are by far the best batteries I know of...... Can you say life time warrenty!

If you are more concerned with looks then setups like those two guys have look great.... The box configuration, however if you want bass over looks, it'll never be like that.... Way to much sub in way to little of space, for ported applications.

A fun trick is to take out the rear speakers and have the port firing into the cabin from one of them.... You don't need rear speakers any ways, they ruin the soundstage...

Well every one certainly has different SPL tastes.... Me personally I like it to be around where ever the artist intended..... I don't feel the need to make my hair tingle and ears hurt, headache etc..... I don't feel the need to let every one know what I have either....

However some people like that, and I'll certainly help them get the desired effects they want.

MYSHO1, adding subs would be for looks..... I'd rather increase box size probably (depends on current size and subs etc, calculate and plot, find out what size works out best etc), I think it'd give you better sound if the box is undersized (I'd guess it is some). Adding extra subs, at most count on 3db per sub or so in average applications.

Dynomat/Rmmat etc are your friend! I love to use this stuff in trunks and doors etc.... It really helps, and I prefer to hide noise from the outside world, I don't want my stuff getting jacked! It also decreases terrible noises that come from a thumping system.....

.

i agree to a point..the amps are up there in quality, power and lets not forget $$$. the w7's are some very good sounding speakers when maked to a 500/1 jl amp. they are not made to give you a distorted, window shaterring bass but yet a clear and accurate bass to some that is more important i know i have 2 w7's with 2 jl audio 500/1 and to stay i have compared them to my friends subs and the w7's outperform in many ways. their components suck, along with every other jl audio mid - high speakers.

there are many ways to go along in building a good sounding system it all depends what it is that you are looking to achive and the price range that you want to stay in.

All dynomatted here!, i would love to expand my box size, but how i have mine in there right now i am not lossing much trunk space, so im happy about it. That box is up against my bach seat, i moved the stock amp, and the keyless modual so it could fit, and my strut tower brace is what holds it "pinned" back there.

W7 is still insanely over priced.... If you want a killer sub in a similiar "catagory" that stomps the **** all over it it, a Brahma is AMAZING. Also 500w is awfully low for a Brahama or W7 that's suppose to have lot more... Having more power then your stuff needs is nice, more headroom, of course with subs it can be difficult cause of money.

The one thing people usually don't get, is in order to have good sounding music you need an amp for the speakers, headunits advertise 45-60w, but their RMS is like 16wRMS....... It's WAY to weak for like 99% of aftermarket speakers, people don't realize they'd be better off with more sensitive speakers with a high db to noise ratio, because otherwise their speakers won't put out any midbass. Another thing people don't know is that they should be using D class amps for subs, so many people run bridged, under powered, 2-channel amps for sub amps....

Ipods rock, if you could hook it up via RCA jacks or some thing..... I would love to have 20/40GB worth of WAV files on hand, however I'd still want more, I got 60GB worth of WAV files on my computer for good sound quality. MP3's are weak.

honestly i dont think there are many subs that can compare to a w7 or in that case jl audio...if you look at allot of sound competions jl audio runs the scene. i honestly havent heard of brahma.
that said i dont understand why it becomes an issue all the time.

w7 is not the best sub around jl audio overall is a good speaker company yes they are overpriced but you get what you pay for and in this case you get a overpriced speaker that sounds better than many subwoofers around and the bass quality is what some people look for.
i myself dont like bass that is not clear and jl audio has fulfilled that. you want bass that gives you a headache and after playing it for a few minutes you get tired of it then the w7 is not the choice to go. for the record my system consist of:

alpine cva 1006
alpine dva 5210
alpine 5 1/2 3 -ways
alpine 6 x 9 3 ways
pioneer deq 9200
alpine mrv ???? 4 - channel amplifier
2 jl audio 500/1 amps
2 jl audio 10w3 in jl spec boxes
its not the best but i like it and that is all that matters.

I don't like to be rude but.... There is a whole world of audio you don't know about if your just a JL fan.....

Compitions don't mean much unless your talking about world finals in IASCA. My buddy competes usually every year, it's another world.

This place can get you started, but it's still hard to sort out the BS a lot of the time http://www.elitecaraudio.com/ .

http://www.adireaudio.com/Mobile/BrahmaSeries.htm Adire audio is well known in the audiophile community (good place to get started in that is www.audiocircle.com)

JL is ok but there is better for your money period.

If you want good componets your going to go with Rainbow, Focal, Dynaudio, and a few others, and if you know what to do build your own using componets from places like www.madisound.com

I don't care what you've heard of or haven't, I gurantee 90% of what you run into on the street is people that don't know what is out there, where told what they know by sales men who are jerks etc....

List of a few sub places I would buy from depending on application and pocket book

http://www.adireaudio.com/
http://www.reaudio.com/
http://imagedynamicsusa.com/public_release/
http://www.ddaudio.com/dd/default.asp

Here are some speaker companies

http://www.madisound.com (assortment of audiophile stuff)
http://car.rainbow-audio.de/home/home.php?lan=2
http://www.focal-america.com/
http://www.dynaudio.de/eng/mobile/index2.htm#
http://www.cdtaudio.com/

Here are some amplifier companies

http://www.audiotec-fischer.com/
http://www.arcaudio.com/arc-05/index2.htm
http://www.zapco.com/
http://www.tubedriver.com/car.php (I have one of these for my highs)
http://www.genesiscaraudio.net/
http://www.trutechnology.com/

Here are some head unit suggestions and other devices....

http://www.eclipse-web.com/ (good head units, 5425 or better I'd say atm)
http://www.optimabatteries.com Can't beat life time
http://www.mobileaudiocontrol.com/
http://www.nakamichi.com/flash.html (very low on features, very high in quality and SQ, the only classy thing left)

Other head unit's I buy.....
Sony ES (rare, I don't think made any more, gonna cost like $270+ if it's a good one)

Pioneer Premier 760MP or better

Alpine $270.....+ Price reflectant to some thing like http://www.onlinecarstereo.com/

Denon (if your rich, and can find them, they are around $900-2000, only two models I know of)

Clarion HX-D10, this unit doesn't have a built in amplifer, it's built for SQ.

Here are two guys I'm friends with, one's site is horridly outdated (car domain one)

Leon

One thing about car audio, the install is numbero-uno on what's going to make or brake some thing. You can have awsome stuff and a crappy install, leaving you with well crap any ways cause of the install....

THIS IS WHAT YOU WANT if on a budget ;-)

You will want to buy the parts off the net, 1/2 the price then stores...

Headunit - kenwoods are nice, the one I have costs less than $200
Front - Pioneers from walmart $55, sounds cheap but they'll get you what you want!
Rear - Pioneers from walmart $65, same thing, cheap and nice still
Subs - Millions of brands, choose yours! I have 2 Phoenix Gold Tantrum 12's running 300rms each and they'll still bump louder than any 1000w subs I've seen. Not exadurating, it's not always about the wattage...$200-300
Sub Amp - Once again million of brands, but you really cannot compare the value/price of phoenix golds, they know how to make a good amp ;-) $300

This will get you where you want to go for under $1k, and this is exactly what I did for my first system and it was awesome, if you want to go the distance tho, the next upgrades will be...

Dynomat - a layer that goes in your trunk that repels the sounds waves off so the waves stay in the car and go towards you, also cuts down on rattle.$80
New sub box - I had a CLOSED/SEALED subbox at first, it was excellent sounding and was real "punchy." I just bought a powerbox custom made which is vented and has 14 angled pieces of wood on the inside to guide the sounds waves to make the bass BUMP THE HECK OUT OF MY TRUNK LID lol $350
4ch amp - This cuts the bass out of the midrange speakers so that the bass does not distort the sound quality at higher sound levels, it allows the subs to bump, and the midrange to give you beautiful music. I bought a $600 one, but so damn worth it.

IT's all upto you as to how much you want to spend, I started light, then moved on to the big boys. I can honestly say I'm done with the system. All I want to do now is make it look pretty, cuz right now it just looks cluttered :nut:

If any questions are needed answered or just want to talk audio, I'm all up for it just send me a PM. I wouldn't mind personally helping you along the way to your new system, I really enjoy picking it all out

Lets see how much my audio system costed me.

Pioneer Headunit: $100 (this also included four 6.5" dual cone speakers. got it while they had this lil special going on)
I used those pioneer 6.5", and put them in the front.

I got Verge speakers for the rear, they were alright. $35.

Sub/amp/box: $150. No, not a typo. Dual alphasonik 10" woofers, with it came a 300 watt amp. It was a steal for the price.

I went to walmart for most of the wiring:

Amp wiring kit: $20 (i think its 10 guage, might be 8 guage, i dont remember what i went with)
Headunit Harness: $6

I got the speaker harnesses for about $5 x 2 = $10.

So far thats $321. Doesnt sound bad at all. Not window breaking bass, but its enough to please me.
