Hey,

Long time reader, first time poster. I have had my 2010 SHO for about six months now, and finally got around to doing some basic stuff because my ipod stopped working in the USB drive.

I had to reset the computer by disconnecting the battery, which allowed me to finally do a factory reset. However, that got me thinking about updating the Sync software.

I downloaded the installation from the sync site after registering and all that. Next I formatted my USB thumb-drive to FAT32. Finally I unzipped the files and put them on the drive.

I took the drive to the car and followed the steps to install. Unfortunately it said "installation cannot be found please make sure it is in the root directory". Alright. Double checked and verified it is in the root directory. Read around on a few forums and thought, "well maybe I have to run the vehicle health report first."

Made sure everything was ok on the syncmyride site. Verified the preferred dealership. Paired up my phone. She started started running the report and dialed some 1-800 number. After a few seconds, however, it said "report could not be submitted at this time".

So, my first question is...

Do I need to have the health support submitted before I update the sync software?

Next...

Is there any other contention that could prevent me from updating my sync software?

Thanks!

Oh, and at the very least I got my ipod working again.

No need to perform a vehicle health report.

You did a master reset that's good.

What kind of drive are you using and is there any other software on it other than the sync files? And is it at least 2gb in size?

If you plug it in to the computer does it pop up with a file on the desktop that's not eraseable.

May not be a bad idea to try a different drive.

Thanks for the reply. Initially I had done a quick format and a long format of the drive to FAT32. I checked and verified that there are no other files on the drive, but I will pick a different one up when I leave work tonight.

As mentioned sometimes you have to use smaller capacity drives to make it work. 8 GB or less should be safe. Good luck!

This is just in case someone does a search and needs some help updating Sync, I just updated my system today July 22, 2017 and it had not been done since 2012, here are a few Lessons Learned.

- I ran a vehicle report but it didn't post to the Sync web site so I guess it does not make a difference.
- Just follow the directions, I skipped ahead an down loaded right to the thumb drive and it would not work.
- When you transfer from your hard drive to the thumb drive drag over the "autoinstall.list"- First / "install.list" - Second / "SyncMyride" - Last
*I am not positive on the order but the first time I tried it everything ended up in one folder "SyncMyRide" and it would not work. I then went back an made sure they where loaded separately and it worked*
- Its going to take a long time to update and for most of the time you will not know anything is happening and nothing will work. At this point I got a little worked up and my dog thought I had lost my mind, but eventually about 30 minutes everything came back.
- Once everything comes back up your going to want to reboot Sync, until I did that the system was acting a little crazy.
- Again Follow the Directions, Ford wants you to authenticate that you updated Sync, you will need the thumb drive to do this, its not hard and Ford will actually tell you if you updated the system. Had I done this the first time I would not have done it over to make sure.
- I cant speak for anyone else but the only thing I lost was the phone stuff (connection, address book, etc) all the my music on Jukebox, my two whole POI, Radio Stations, where all there.

Hope this helps
Charlie
