The non-nav version also has lower RAM installed than the nav version.
All SHO's have nav don't they? I think the Police Interceptor SHO's are the only ones that came with the smaller head unit. Not sure if it has nav or not.

Mine has the standard 8" head unit with nav.

With SYNC2 sort of as the maps are stored on an outboard SD memory card, the hardware is compatible. There have been some who hacked the APIM to turn it on however I have heard Ford had an update that will no longer allow this. SYNC3 has the maps stored in the APIM itself, the non-nav hardware doesn't have the memory required.

I think I read about that. They were changing the ID or something along those lines to one that was provisioned for nav.

Maybe it's just me, but Sync nav is horrible. Even on the wife's Explorer with Sync 3 nav, it's of little use to me. I guess if I weren't used to Google nav it wouldn't be so bad but I always end up turning late or early as the directions just don't seem clear. And that's assuming it doesn't take me the longest way possible.

I also have BT connection issues in my car where it'll connect to my phone but not actually play audio for calls, nav, music, etc. It'll display on the screen and allow me to skip tracks but no audio will play. The update I recently flashed enabled a Sync Reboot option which is a nice work around for that issue. Before I had a pull over, shut the car down, start it back, and hope it connected properly. Now I can reboot Sync will I drive.

If it weren't so expensive and I wouldn't lose other functionality, I'd just replace the entire system with something Android Auto compatible.

All Ford/Lincoln vehicles equipped with MyFord Touch, the 8" version of SYNC 2, have the navigation capability, but it may be locked out at the factory. I have seen a couple of SHO models that had the 4" screen. Those don't have the capability to run navigation. SYNC 3 vehicles without navigation have less storage space, and can't be updated to run navigation like the MyFord Touch models. Adding nav to non-nav MyFord Touch vehicles involves Forscan and a hacked copy of a SYNC 2 update file.

Thread revival....
I want Android auto in my 13, Nav, 8" screen MyFord touch system. Is the only way this is going to happen is by purchasing a kit like this?

Or this

The better option is to get the iDatalink Maestro and swap the whole indash unit. Most of those like the ones you posted are not factory units and they've been hacked in China. Lots of problems with those. For less than the cost of the Chinese hacked Amazon and eBay kits you can get a Pioneer, Kenwood or JVC head unit and connect to your factory harness with retained Sync functionality.

I'm a little lost on what you're suggesting. That Maestro is $149. The only head units compatible with the Taurus are $649 and up. That's $800 and how would that allow my AC controls and such to keep working?

The JVC is $380, the Kenwood is $430 and the Pioneer is $550. The Maestro links with your factory Sync system so you dont loose any functionality. Steering wheel controls, AC, etc all work just like normal. And you have more functionality with an aftermarket head unit as well as the peace of mind that these systems are proven to work and you wont have a problem if there's a warranty issue. The Chinese hacked units are prone to failures and will be difficult to deal with any warranty issues. Here's a demo from a guy that installed the Kenwood unit w/ Maestro in his 2013 SHO that shows all the factory functionality as well as some of the added features.

OK ok, That's looking better. Crutchfield is stating I will lose Bluetooth even after buying an extra $314 of parts. Any idea what's that's about? Out of those three, which would you buy?

Well here's a complication, I can not find a single vendor with those models available. I think production was stopped.

No you don't. I know the Pioneer and Kenwood both have bluetooth. Not sure about the JVC but I would suspect it does. I bought the Pioneer because it has a capacitive vs a resistive touch screen. Bluetooth works just fine on it.

Yeah right now there are a ton of electronics that are backordered, as well as a lot of other products on the planet, due to COVID and the chip shortage.

706s looks like in stock. I did not see the bluetooth incompatibility. That head unit states bluetooth built in unless there is an interface issue messing it up.

This is still only for 2013+ (Sync 2), correct? Sync 1 blows hairy testicles.

I thought I saw it on crutchfield? I'll have to look again

No you're right. Either electronics shortage or model replacement. I see one or 2 on ebay. I see a new one on ebay but the seller has 0 transactions. If you can get a money back option it might be worth a try. Also saw an open box model available on best buy. You have to shop by location to see what open box are avail near you

Unfortunately yes. The 2010-12's just don't have any viable options available.
I did a little digging and Maestro's site shows that the Maestro RR is compatible my 2012 and provides a huge list of stereos that its compatible with. When I look up those stereos I didn't notice any that are the same 8" as our car. Which stereo is everyone using?
